    Pros

They let us keep our Union and our Union benefits. We get to run plant during management meetings.

    Cons

Management has meetings all day to plan next meeting. Engineers call all the shots and buy parts that waste money.

    Advice to Management

Start asking the operators help with problems not just engineers who do not run the product. We know our job!

    Pros

    - fast paced environment - basic salary compensation good - interesting products and portfolio business structure - CommTest (one of the business groups) has a good culture & works well as a team

    Cons

    - Highly political 'extreme' - Low senior leadership integrity with a self-serving attitutde - zero work /life balance - overly complex - siloed competitive teams working against each other - highly manipulative, passive-aggressive, toxic and intimidating culture

    Advice to Management

Undertake skip level interviews to find out what is really going on below E-staff & their direct reports.

    Pros

    - It was a paycheck - Some of the teams there are sharp and want to make a real difference - We can always count on extended time off due to company shutdowns - lots of cash on balance sheet.

    Cons

    - Zero vision in CCOP organization. It's all about HC reduction and reducing expense - CCOP leader lacks any vision, any human touch, and is surrounded by "yes" people. - "Toxic" environment in CCOP and total lack of trust in mgmt. (Cascades from the top) - Never know when the a is coming on your head..keep your resume current. - Benefits get cut without employees knowing or being told.

    Advice to Management

    - Get some leaders that know how to drive a real strategic vision and and actually cares about the organization and employees. - Clean house at the top esp in CCOP. (It's not too late)

    Pros

Diverse culture, good product mix, can get away with anything (no accountability at this company).

    Cons

Too numerous to mention: poor leadership, poor decision-making ability by Sr. management, discrimination (age and race), HR department is very week - no follow-through, VERY bureaucratic and political environment, little to no performance feedback, insecure engineering and mgmt staff (does not empower their employees), very weak engineering team, etc etc..

    Advice to Management

Entire CCOP mgmt staff needs to be held accountable for their poor business sense and leadership ability.

JDSU CommTest is an "OLD BOY OCRACY" where results, merit, and respect does not matter. It is hyper political.

    Pros

You will work with some really smart engineers. There are some winning products. There are some great projects to work on They are in good markets

    Cons

No work/life balance- expect to work all hours and weekends Expect no recognition Expect unqualified people to be rubber stamped for hire and promo. There are many examples of managers who don't know their business and who are under lots of pressure that make terrible decisions without information. Very old style management, no women or minorities in positions that matter, top down decision making, lack of business process, lack of modern IT infrastructure to service customers Low employee morale High turnover and constant firings and demotions for petty things Constant organization changes-4 in FY 2012

    Advice to Management

Invest in changing the culture to create a meritocracy, invest in IT and process to service customers, modernize

    Pros

Flexibility AWS in IT. Ability to do what you want because everything is very decentralized. No policies; so hard to break rules.

    Cons

A lot of ancient people in IT. Recognition given when things break otherwise ignored. A lot of people who have lost interest in work.

    Advice to Management

Changes are finally hapening in IT. A lot of dead weight in the organization. Create a more collaborative environment and train managers.

    Pros

They pay well compared to others in similar industries. That's about it.

    Cons

The benefits are terrible, especially the stock purchase plan. Compared to other tech companies in our area, it's laughable. Retaliation by management if employees complain is alive and well. HR doesn't listen if you turn to them for help; their attitude it "suck it up or get out." JDSU is very old school in its management and promotion practices, and young employees don't stay long once they figure out they have no future here. Even the culture is old-school; no fun at all. The employees I see around me just drag through their days and no one seems happy to be here. For all its talk about collaboration, the company provides almost no social opportunities for employees to come together outside work, or even inside work. It's a thoroughly depressing place to be.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to convince us that you care and actually SHOW us. You say you care about career development for your employees? All we see is management and high potential development, but nothing for the rest of us. Put your money where your mouth is, and develop the 80% of us who make up most of your company. Everybody wants to save money, but think about how much you lose every time great employees walk out the door because the company didn't do anything to make them want to stay.

    Pros

There are still some people left that are really great.

    Cons

JDSU business practice is to purchase companies, get as much out of them as possible and outsource what is left or dump it completely.

    Advice to Management

You have some great people left in the Germantown Design group. Keep them.

    Pros

Flexible work locations. Somewhat flexible hours in that you are not 9-5. Great opportunities to work globally.

    Cons

Management fails at every level to communicate any sort of vision or plan. There are constant reorgs, and they have not meet a VP that they won't hire. They place unrealistic work loads on their staff. They will without thought or consideration of skills eliminate employees to meet their goals.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring new directors, VPs to solve problems. Too many layers of management that are not in touch with what is needed.
