JHA is a good organization that has slipped on it's commitment to employees as of late.

I have been working at Jack Henry & Associates full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Diverse, fairly relaxed atmosphere most of the time. Compensation is generally low compared to the market, but some employees make fair market pay.

    Cons

Tragically hard to move around in the organization, you can get cornered into a group that is declining. Terribly slow to develop with Industry standards, falling well behind the curve. Too many legacy systems that just won't let go. Most of the middle managers that I've worked with are smart but generally out of touch. Many of them holding only one other job and therefor bringing very little experience in software development life cycles. Still using waterfall SDL!!!

Offices outside of the home office in Monett are treated like the third world. In terrible repair, dirty and unkempt environments; bathrooms often out of order, ventilation system coughs dust clouds, carpet from 1970, stained and broken furniture (yes it's really that bad). However at the home office, not a blade of grass out of place as workers roam the expansive facility all day polishing toilets, pruning shrubs and providing multiple options for lunch in the on site lunch room at generous discounts. Ya, they just don't care about any other office other than Monett Mo.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should look for ways to move their top employees up and provide training for it. The company as a whole should revert to it's roots of putting the ASSOCIATES first and squash the notion of invasive audits of the employees family and person information through unreliable third party's (ConSova).. As of late, the organization is nickle and dimming the benefits which used to be their greatest factor.

Pay attention to facilities outside of Monett. The facility in Allen is a running joke. Obvious that you don't care about employee well being in Texas.

The good ole boy network exists only in Monett Mo. No chance of getting exposed to opportunity in other offices.

    Pros

Nice people. Good benefits. Multiple locations allow the ability to relocate.

    Cons

No matter how hard you work, you will still get passed up for promotions. The hiring of friends or outsiders that are recommended happens a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Utilize the great talent you have in house before searching elsewhere.

    Pros

Benefits are nice. Not a huge hassle to get time off. Lots to learn and lots of skills to gain. Work from home.

    Cons

No training. Typical "big company" mentality. very little preparation to actually do your job. The people who work the hardest get the shortest end of the stick.

I have been working at Jack Henry & Associates full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Schedule flexibility
    friendly atmosphere
It's a good place to start
    Tuition assistance is nice
The benefits aren't bad but they aren't great either

    Cons

Pay is minimal compared to industry averages
Unless you know someone it is nearly impossible to advance through management.
Depending on the department you work for work-life balance can be thrown way off do to on call, weekend support, etc...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

All I ask of management is to look at the compensation policy and try to bring us more in line with the industry averages. The organization is currently making record profits but employees are not getting any of that money. I would also like the ability to advance my career, currently that's impossible.

Jack Henry has a tall management structure, and Core employees are led to believe that their position is tenuous.

I worked at Jack Henry & Associates full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The buildings and grounds are lovely, and there are several offices across the U.S. The benefits are competitive. Paid time off is accrued with each pay period, instead of one lump sum, and hours taken begin to be replenished with the next pay cycle. 40 hours can be carried over into the next fiscal year. There are some fun activities, occasionally. Some employees are allowed to work remotely, at least two days per week. Internal education opportunities are superb.

    Cons

Nepotism and favoritism is rampant in several groups. Generally, career and financial growth is stagnant for most employees, despite performance. Competition between employees for limited financial resources seriously restricts cooperation within departmental groups. Because Jack Henry and Associates is self insured financially, individuals with a serious illness - their own, or a family member's - sometimes find themselves on the fast track to unemployment. One employee was given that treatment after over 27 years of service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees who work on-call evenings and weekends a fair hourly wage - on top of their salary - for the on-call hours, like hospitals do, such as three to five dollars per hour. Give annual cost of living increases to all employees, on top on performance increases, so that your employees are not working for less and less monetary compensation each year. Make an effort to reduce the impact of favoritism within departmental groups.

    Pros

People for the most part are great, friendly and helpful. Relaxed dress code and flex hours are a plus. Great place to start your career.

    Cons

Opportunity for advancement is limited, Salary increases are lacking and pay scale is below average. Training and development is on your own time and dime which is hard with long work hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in industry viable development of associates and work life balance needs to be more than just words but part of the way they benefit the associates.
