Overall - A good place to work

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Fort Worth, TX

I have been working at Jacobs Engineering

ProsFlexible work schedules and opportunities for advancement. Large Intl company that is growing organically and through acquisitions. Salary and Benefits are good compared to industry.

ConsStressful and busy place to work. Runs very lean in overhead and pressure to maintain very high billabillity levels. Policies are designed for "one size fits all approach" but differant departments need flexibility.

Advice to Senior ManagementRethink the one size fits all approach and empower your departments to do what makes sense. Do something to retain good employees and project managers.

4th year Engineer in Training / Consultant

Engineer II (Former Employee)
Austin, TX

I worked at Jacobs Engineering

ProsFlexible time schedule, Fridays off with four ten hour days work schedule. Piad holidays and benefits are great and Austin office location was awesome.

ConsJacobs company culture and benefits replaced existing culture as the company was bought by Jacobs. Benefits weren't as great but the existing culture did not change.

Advice to Senior ManagementJacobs needs to create incentives for employees to work hard like quarterly bonuses and such to keep turnover and work satisfaction low.

South Carolina misses out on the Jacobs ideal

Project Control Specialist (Current Employee)
Goose Creek, SC

I have been working at Jacobs Engineering

ProsLocal feel of the area, and natural surroundings..
Backing of the large pool of management skillsets that comprise the engineering and management

Consgood-ol boy deadwood that will not accept new tech to streamline operations.
We are not able to shape the workplace to a level of professional fabrication techniques from a mid-level mgmt. point. If some levels of simple electronic inventory and file sharing (access) were implemented, the process would require less Labor intense input (and legwork) to compile databases . These devices are in use in every phase of small business and every coding system of a modern workplace. information is the backbone of any fabrication operation, and the ease with which it can be implemented is astounding.
To embrace these technical advances from 20 years ago is essential for the current and future success of this facility.

Advice to Senior Managementallow the younger minds to invest in the tech of the workplace process, embrace the enthusiasm and flow of a fresh view. Do not be afraid to clean out the Slow and Stubborn minds that block this progress.

Steady company that is a good place to work, but nothing special

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Jacobs Engineering

ProsPeople are generally very nice and willing to help each other solve problems. You have access to fairly senior people on projects and there is a pretty informal structure to reporting in the company. People are generally pretty laid back, sometimes to a fault. Management does a good job of communicating the company's business model and targeting growth. People are awarded based on merit more than seniority.

ConsThe benefits are quite mediocre - medical and dental premiums are very expensive. Many folks are not always driven to go the extra mile. Internal processes are overly bureaucratic and can be frustrating at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop better incentives for legal and contracts folks to support faster business decisions regarding new contracts.

BR Operations Very Good

Computer Aided Drafting Designer (Former Employee)
Baton Rouge, LA

I worked at Jacobs Engineering

ProsLocation and projects. Very good staff - always willing to help. Senior staff is wonderful!

ConsLots of people; there is the tendency to feel like you are only a number. Middle management are a times a bit pushy , but are saddled with the task of getting the job done. Middle managers can be a bit pushy and at time are down right insulting. I know that I have bee insulted by them on more than one ocassion, but have not heard as much as a single "I'm sorry" for their poor behavior. Upper management however is not very tolerant of mis-steps by over zealeous middle managers. I have found that making an appointment with the HR manager can solve most problems with middle managers and they will then leave you alone to do your work.

Advice to Senior ManagementEducate middle management on better HR skills when working with people.
