I have been working at Jacobs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Respected company that does everything in the AEC field. TOO BIG TO FAIL. Work very independant and expected to perform on your own.

    Cons

So many employees it is hard to communicate with everyone and different divisions, and group companies. HR is not very helpful. The health insurance is extremely expensive for a large company. HR does not seem to shop around for better insurance insurance prices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication needs to be improved. Advance employees from within the company.

I worked at Jacobs full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

good pay, easy work, not too stuffy of an environment to work in, friendly people, always hiring someone, mostly interns and low level employees. There used to be a training program for site acquisition however that has not been spoken of. Really if you dont have a law school degree you can only plan on being a coordinator

    Cons

not too much in the way of advancement, there is no training program to get you on to the next level of your career, location is near the airport so traffic is horrible

    I worked at Jacobs

    Pros

The work hours were flexible. Management cared about the workplace and personal safety of its employees.

    Cons

The work load for my group could be sporadic. There were times where it seemed like it was too many employees for the amount of work.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I am contracted to a major automotive company, and I get to work with their engineers on a daily basis, while I build up my knowledge base. Working with Jacobs allows me to get my foot in the door, and build connections that may be useful later in my career. My work schedule is the same everyday, so I always know I will be home by a certain time, and I have never had issues when I needed time off

    Cons

The pay scales are below average for the work that we are doing. Many employees use the jobs here to gain experience before leaving for other employers that are willing to pay more. Many employees have complained that supervisors are unwilling to give raises which is a huge demotivator.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to consider paying more for salary and hourly employees, to attract more skilled employees. The employees that are being hired a very under-qualified, and the people that are qualified won't take the jobs because the pay is not enough. The under-qualified workers add more stress, and higher workloads onto everybody else which causes the qualified employees to leave for better paying jobs.

    Pros

They are friendly and the atmosphere is laid back, comfortable environment.

    Cons

No training plan, one department doesn't know what the other is doing, company not in sync.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a uniform process, which everyone follows so the company can be in sync.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, descendent benefits (401k). Health benefits lacking for such a large company. My wife and I carry our own health insurance and pay less for the same coverage.

    Cons

Pay is good as long as you have work. If there is no work the "unwritten rule" is to go home and use your vacation time. If you charge to much time on General time (Nothing to do) then you will be asked to kindly leave.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be involved with your employees more than just at staff meetings. Improve the culture by creating a more secure environment.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Nothing has impressed me yet.

    Cons

Insurance costs are way to expensive for what they offer. Worst insurance I've ever had. For 60,000 employees I would think a better insurance plan could be offered.
Really no room for advancement for me.
    Management team needs major reconstruction.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Laid back atmosphere. If you work hard you will be recognized and given opportunities.
If you are slacker, you will slide through and still have a job.

    Cons

No development!! If you have 20+ years of experience this is a great "career", if you are withing 7 yrs of your career you are in trouble.
    Weak to non-existing leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in everyone, especially younger engineers.
Be transparent and look into what "Vision" and "Mission" - statements mean and why it is important to communicate those to your people on regular bases.
