They're always looking for ways to improve the way they handle their management teams internally. We're allowed to perform.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's not always about the bottom line. It is about the people and relationships both inside and outside of Jacobs.

    Pros

Great benefits, management is highly flexible, great learning opportunities. This company is part of a rare section of the IT community who believes in supporting their employees as much if not more than the customer.

    Cons

Office could be sporadic a lot of the time. Work is not clearly defined and I often had to find or beg for projects to work on.

    I worked at Jacobs

    Pros

Very employee oriented, for example employee cubicles have the outer glass walls, managers have the inside offices. Also the work-life balance is very good.

    Cons

I can't really find a con for this company, work-life balance is really great and the management is very sensitive to the employees. the benefits are great but a little on the expensive side.

I was hired by them to do work for NASA as a contractor which provided me a great opportunity to network

I worked at Jacobs as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great people, personal and professional growth, core values, great salaries

    Cons

training, engineering industry is cyclical meaning one day you have a job and the next you may have to get transferred (this comes with any EPC company), no real emphasis on education or leadership

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with a solid training program, take the time and money to fix JPCS and other Jacobs programs (the money spent fixing it is far less than the time employees use to get through the programs' bugs)

I worked at Jacobs full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They have great benefits and paid well compared to other companies. As a company I really enjoyed working for them. They tried to be as open as they could with regards to contract negotiations with the Government. I felt in an adverse environment they treated us with dignity and respect.

    Cons

Government contract work is difficult for anyone trying to establish long term goals or make long term investments. We had gone from a yearly review of our contract to quarterly which put everyone on pins and needles. A really tough environment to work in and support a family when you are concerned about having a job every 3,6, or 12 months. This isn't really a critique against Jacobs, but of the Federal Government contract job life cycle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep trying to provide as much transparency of the process to your employees. I appreciated that more than anything. Also improve employee development opportunities as it can really help employees feel like Jacobs is on our side and looking out for us. Suggest giving more opportunities to get advanced certifications through Jacobs.
