I worked at Jeppesen Sanderson full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Decent benefits. Good work/life balance. Coworkers enjoyable.

    Cons

Ever shrinking employee perks - no more company parties, no more tuition reimbursement, no more thanksgiving turkey.... No bright outlook for the company as a whole which management has no problem reminding people of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop ruling through fear (of being laid off/ terminated). The common theme is that you can easily be replaced so shut up and work. End rampant favoritism and live by the company values you so readily espouse. Senior management openly informs employees that the business (distribution center) is not sustainable.

Current Employee - Technologist  in  Englewood, CO
Current Employee - Technologist in Englewood, CO

I have been working at Jeppesen Sanderson full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Excellent cafeteria if you are fortunate enough to work in the main building.
Market salary (however total compensation package is below Jeppesen's parent, the Boeing company, as well as other aerospace companies).
Reasonable work - life balance, except those times when you are on a project with an unrealistic schedule and/or budget, at which time you can say goodbye to your evenings and weekends (uncompensated).

    Cons

The technology organizations have been so mismanaged its a miracle anything actually gets delivered. The only answer leadership seems to have to just about any profit issue is to get rid of people. Leaders are more interested in sucking up with each other than in obtaining results - except for those that are just holding out until they can retire. Career advancement is nil, and appears to be based on who can talk the loudest and argue the best rather than on real abilities. Directors with zero engineering experience, project managers that have never built software before, arrogance and buzzword bingo used to make critical decisions, and the people doing the actual work rarely recognized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that your future depends on a strong, internal technical development organization. Outsourcing and offshoring has never worked for you in the past, stop trying to make it happen at the expense of the talent you already have. What the company does can be interesting and rewarding, and people will want to stay and make you a success, just allow yourself to go back to building your team vs. seeing everyone else as the technical experts.

You can get away with working less than 40 hrs / wk and many employees do just that.

    Cons

Don't promote or keep their best employees. Just the a$$ kissers

I have been working at Jeppesen Sanderson full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Passionate, dedicated, and fun colleagues (for the most part).

    Limited remote working opportunities.

    Cons

Lean production methodology recently implemented from proof-of-concept phase before it was robust enough to support the entire production system. Resulting difficulties and inefficiencies are being absorbed by Analysts.

Production tools are archaic, and technology is primitive. Modern, sophisticated tools are continuously promised, but almost never delivered.

Vast majority of middle management acquired their positions via tenure rather than merit. Result: Directionless (in some cases, incompetent) "leaders" that neither respect, nor trust their employees.

No data to track productivity or quality - combined with management/HR cowardice - leads to zero accountability for chronic underperformers, while many high-performers are left unrecognized.

No plan exists for career development of Analysts, nor are there plans to implement one in the near future. Result: Highly ambiguous performance evaluation system, and difficulty in advancement.

No opportunity for critically thinking Analysts to innovate, as management champions and governs all process changes.

Work environment resembles a sweatshop. Tiny workstations, minimal privacy, noisy and distracting facility layout. Need to use the restroom? Get in line...

    Unpaid overtime routinely required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take responsibility and start holding middle management (and yourselves) accountable before Boeing steps in to correct the problem.

I have been working at Jeppesen Sanderson

    Pros

You get money. That Mark Van Tyne guy seems nice.

    Cons

Current professionals looking for work beware. This group of senior managers want to get shifted around to other divisions until they retire. Like most companies, they don't offer pensions or tuition reimbursement, but they keep managers top heavy with full pensions making it impossible for them to offer anything more than a temp/contract offer. If they offer you a contract, realize you will never get promoted no matter how hard you work. They recently had big layoffs with a handful of full time employees that should had been let go years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep hiding.

    I worked at Jeppesen Sanderson

    Pros

    Semi-decent benefits but eroding yearly

    Cons

Technical professionals do all the work and management takes the credit. Management is very self absorbed & politically motivated. No coherent development or operating plan. Many stove pipe organizations. Managers know nothing about the work they "supervise" ... nor do they care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut some spineless impotent VP's and Directors with minions that tell them everything they want to hear. Don't be afraid to surround yourself with people who offer an opinion contra to yours.

    Pros

    good benefits
casual work environment and good w/l balance
    good food
you'll find a lot of company if you are Christian

    Cons

    Frustratingly slow to execute...on anything
Political with many directors having a big-fish-in-a-little-pond mentality
The people who led the company into the situation it's in are still there
Bloated company that can't respond to competition or meet commitments to Boeing
Too many employees wear their religion on their sleeves

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on culling the entrenched, stale leadership and not the people bringing new ideas to the company. Start playing to win and stop playing not to lose.
