I worked at Johns Hopkins University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Access to top notch lecturers and experts in the field. Pride in being part of ground breaking research, and being able to work in labs that aren't worrying for grants.

    Cons

Very very low pay, no work life balance, no such thing as overtime despite university policy requiring paid overtime. No extra benefits that you would find on a larger university or industry.

I have been working at Johns Hopkins University full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Tuition remission, reputation, great president! Great research and hospital. Many highly intelligent people to learn lots from. Work life Balance. Many opportunities to engage the community and give back. Lots of training.

    Cons

Very decentralized environment so it can be difficult to build relationships. Silo driven in many ways. Difficult to get answers to solving questions so you can often be left to making your own decisions. Sometimes a good thing; sometimes not so much. Can be difficult to be promoted. Some of the professional development courses are not that great which is disappointing!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to eliminate the bureaucracy! Secure the best of the best to train and educate the employees- just like you do for the students!
