    I worked at Johns Manville

    Pros

Experience depends on location and division. Decent pay, good work-life balance, good 401k and some benefits. Some locations are really good!

    Cons

Oklahoma City has a questionable management style. There tends to be under-qualified people in positions which they have no relevant experience. Do not depend on HR for any ethical behavior.

If you want to move up in JM, it is all about playing games and making friends with the right people.

Very unprofessional management style, horrible HR, poor vacation time and bonuses, bad communication, unethical. Micro-managing to the max. If you want anything out of this company, you have to ask for it multiple times. Nothing will easily be given to you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please realize the importance of having clear communication and valuing your employees, even if they are low-level; these people make the company profit. Micro-managing and yelling makes employees unmotivated and miserable. A company and employees can only progress as far as it's leaders do.

I worked at Johns Manville full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people at the plants working to implement ill conceived edicts.

    Cons

Has become too political, senior management is micro-managing from ivory tower with little background in manufacturing and competent management. Senior leaders and their direct reports are rewarded in simply pointing out problems, rather then developing effective solutions with those performing the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Endeavor to rectify issues of the recent past and become experts at effectively managing people. A socio-technical approach in the context of systems engineering would be of great benefit.

I worked at Johns Manville as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Nice location, not much is expected from you. People can get away with anything, besides doing their job.

    Cons

All the interesting jobs are contracted out.
Many peoples' (myself included) job was WAY different than the description
Over 155 years, a lot of rules and stagnation have built up, getting in the way of work.
Most of the company is close to retirement. (maybe a pro?)

I have been working at Johns Manville

    Pros

The compensation package is fair. The employees are without a doubt the most experienced and professional in the industry today. The potential for the future is tremendous. The products in the marketplace are the best available.

    Cons

Lack of respect from management. Lack of communication. Many ethical discrepancies. The best person for the job is not always the person who gets the job. Even though I'm a Union member, I feel that the Union contributes to many of the problems that plague the company. I see what's happened with the automakers and see distinct parallels between their situation and the potential future of this company if issues aren't addressed soon.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to those who do the job and put their recommendations to use. Be consistent and fair in dealing with employee issues.

Extremely political company that is not interested in making progress. Main interests tend to be protecting people.

    I worked at Johns Manville

    Pros

    Salary and benefits are good.

    Cons

The company is dwarfed by politics and lack of interest in creating new products. Poor to low average employees are kept due to their interest in maintaining status quo. New employees that represent a threat to the club are sought out and destroyed. I would not tell any of my friends to seriously consider employment with this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the rotten apples.
