    Great products, Machiavellian Politics.

    Recruiter (Former Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsWages and benefits slightly above average. Solid, green brand that no one has heard of outside the Auto/HVAC industry.

ConsThe internal politics are out of control, even for a Fortune 100. Poor performers are protected based on their relationships with Sr. Management. Poor internal communication between business units. Poor work / life balance for individual contributors and excellent balance for Director Level and above.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow non-executives to park in the executive lots on Fridays since it's always empty.

I have worked for Johnson Controls for four years.

    Engineer (Current Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsDecent pay and good benefits, good work/life balance, nice and friendly coworkers.

ConsLimited opportunities for career advancement. It is very heavy in the middle management level. a lot of tedious work processes, and safety and administrative trainings.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus more on development of younger employees.

Salary initially appeared to be ok

Global Finance Senior Manager (Former Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsSalary initially "appeared" to be ok

Cons* Salary is good but you'll be worked very hard. Expect to work 80-100 hours plus per week.
    * Most people work from home which has many cons: 1) Inability to learn from colleagues
    2) Out of sight - out of mind, therefore you're not going to be missed if they decide to layoff employees,
    3) It tends to attract many parents so you'll have to work around them taking the kids to school, hospital etc
    4) Since it's a global company, expect to have meetings at 1am and/or 5am frequently. You will never be able to get a proper nights sleep and you can forget about seeing friends and family while you're working here.
    * The company cares far more about its share price than its employees - so they don't mind mass layoffs
    * Since you're most likely to work from home, you may never meet the people you're working with so they're more likely to not care if they're rude or degrading

Advice to Senior ManagementHave a little respect for a work / life balance. This company is not setup for those who want relationships with friends or family. If you're single or divorced this company may be ok for you, otherwise you'll end up single or divorced.

Challenging, learning opportunities, lack of consistency across depts

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsOpportunities to network within the company, compensation, and community involvement are top notch.

ConsThe corporate message of providing all employees learning and growth opportunities is not practiced as preached in some locations. Makes it difficult for one to stay happy in their position. Negative manager allowed to a run team and provide no team support. Hard to follow someone who does not have your team's back. Again, lacking the practice what you preach policy.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake sure all locations have the same mentality and corporate attitude everywhere. Really ask why people are leaving the department and make some changes to ensure they are not stressed over the same issues and drive them away from being an asset to your company. Provide tangible avenues for growth and development if one wishes to grow within the company.

Dynamic and demanding environment to work

Program Manager (Current Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsGrowth oriented company with a diverse portfolio of business to weather each type of storm.

ConsShare holders are the priority, not the people actually working at the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice what you preach, take care of your employees first, your customers will feel the benefit.

    Good Job

Project Manager (Current Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsEmployee Loyalty is very important in the company if you do a good job. This is rewarded by usually working with you to find you the right job till you fing the correct fit within the company.

ConsLong Work Hours weem to a prerequisite, whether working form home or trying tocomplete projects. Also to get further within the company relocation and moving family seems to be the norm to get diverse experiences as this is an intermational company.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a good lob to keep the company successful for over 125 years

    Finance Intern

Finance Intern (Former Employee) Milwaukee, WI

ProsJohnson Controls is a global company with a strong reputation. The internship program gives you exposure to upper level management through a speaker series.

ConsJohnson Controls fails to give interns a lot of responsibility. The work is often times monotonous, and the work environment can at times be tense.
