I have been working at Johnson Controls as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

As an intern considering applying for full-time employment at JCI I have seen various parts of the business for over a year. Johnson Controls has:great benefits, a very nice working environment, positive sense of community, and helpful employees. Management is very keen on employee feedback as well from what I've seen.

    Cons

My only con is they are understaffed. Even as an intern I found myself working later than expected. Additionally, I have noticed that most directors have moved from other positions - many people have worked their way up to manager through JCI, but it seems like they reach out to other companies for most leadership roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Johnson Controls as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Great chance to develop new skills, grow in career, network and meet people, be challenged and explore opportunities

    Cons

Hard to get a full-time job when you start as an intern. No benefits as an intern and no chance of a raise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring on the people you've invested time and money on and don't leave them hanging

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Top Management has great vision and clear direction of where they want to take the business to and make money. Very ethical and train employees annualy to remain ethical in their daily practices

    Cons

Middle managers need to follw the lead of the top management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Supervise middle management more to make sure the following the vision. Top heavy on the director positions. Some very new directors have very little experience and sometimes technical knowledge to effectively lead and are hence a hinderence

Office environment can change from one department to another. But many are wonderful to work in and some adjustments but doesnt mean the department is not a good one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Johnson Controls as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

You get to learn much about the business and how it runs. People are very nice and helpful, they will provide you with the necessary information you need in order to get things done.

    Cons

Things might seems a bit organized at times and executives don't normally communicate properly to lower tears of the company. They announce major changes within 1-2 weeks and expect you to adapt in that time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to have detailed project plans for interns and offer a hiring plan for when the internship is over.

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The best reason to work there is to have the opportunity to work with talented, motivated people. The teams were great to work with.

    Cons

It was challenging to stay on top of a quickly evolving industry with remote teams. I believe that JCI is more comfortable with on-site teams.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep hiring good people.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lax schedule, great teams, and interesting projects. Pay is reasonable, and opportunities are prevalent.

    Cons

Mentoring doesn't really come to you unless you actively pursue the person, time off is not very good, and open concept style is not very good for certain aspects of the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to your employees.

I worked at Johnson Controls as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The company seems to genuinely care about its employees and the communities in which they work. If you are a FTE or intern there are a lot of opportunities for growth. Everyone shows up to work to make the company better and more profitable.

    Cons

There's less job security as a contractor. Some contractors or consultants have been there upwards to a few years, others a few months. You're better as a FTE.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be transparent. Your employees are smart and can sense when changes are going to be made. Be clear and honest from the beginning.
