    Pros

Wide variety of positions and opportuities available for employees. Great pay and benefits. Great work life balance

    Cons

Power Solutions engineering and product division has sent me from position to position yearly without warning, giving little opportunity to choose.

    Pros

Great company to work for for a good reputation, decent benefits, VERY involved in the community/corporate responsibility. Excellent pay and perks/discretionary benefits

    Cons

A lot of layoffs followed by a hiring frenzy. Very hard to move to certain areas of the company...a LOT of who you know and not what you know goes on there.

    Advice to Management

Give equal opportunities for all employees to learn, grow then move to other areas of the company. Don't extend promotions to "cliques" of people who clearly are not outstanding performers, but simply a part of the "in" group.

    Pros

Great office and location. Benefits at headquarters are amazing. Opportunities to grow are great with the various business units. Always looking forward and to adapt to the changing world

    Cons

Difficult to reach top management due to top heavy and large organization side. Does not have the nimblness of a small company

    Advice to Management

Great job on growth company and engaged employees initiatives. Vision week was a great success. Need to focus on the next big idea to stay ahead of the game

    I worked at Johnson Controls

    Pros

Relatively low-key, patient HQ environment, I was given the time and space to create real analysis vs. the "we need this yesterday" environment I worked in elsewhere.

    Cons

Not a lot of room to advance at HQ, must move to the divisions.

    Pros

Good company to work for even on the bad days.

    Cons

Very multi-task position with a good level of stress sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Really not any. We were not micromanaged. But if we had a problem, supervisor would help.

    Cons

Office politics are typical to the size of the company, leadership is aware and focused on removing political barriers.

    Advice to Management

Management is focused on employee satisfaction and organic growth of talent, very supportive leadership team

    Pros

The company pays well and benefits are better than most.

    Cons

Most managers are more interested in networking up and preparing for their next job than they are in coaching/developing their employees. Of course, there are the rare exceptions. Constantly shifting priorities make it hard to focus and understand where how to measure impact.

    Advice to Management

Take the time to coach and develop your employees and make sure your manager values that contribution to the company.

    Pros

Laid back for interns. Involvement with the team. Big place to switch around departments

    Cons

Not many full-time opportunities for interns who are graduating, but the experience is still worth it.

    Advice to Management

    Keep interns around

    Great company, but very silo'd

Former Employee - Human Resources Manager in Milwaukee, WI

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Huge company with great benefits and very friendly and personable coworkers. Company consistently grew year over year and it was exciting to be a part of it.

    Cons

For how big a company it is, JCI operates in silos - that is to say that the different divisions don't talk to one another and it is very hard to transfer into another group. Stress can be high at times during the year, especially around Aug/Sept right before the close of the fiscal year. Variable pay (bonuses) don't start until you are at Sr Manager level, which is a very small % of the employee population...and even then the bonus % aren't very high and seldom get paid out at 100%

    Advice to Management

Promote more across the enterprise - between divisions. There should be a "One JCI" atmosphere instead of a division first attitude.

    Pros

Good work-life balance. Will have opportunity to learn a lot and work with cutting edge technology.

    Cons

Company Politics, Hard to motivate people to work in faster pace.

    Advice to Management

Show employee recognition, you will see the company moving forward way faster than it is now.
