I have been working at Johnson Controls

    Pros

Company is upfront with employees. Monthly employee meetings and updates. Most people are friendly. Company cares about public image and participates in giving back to the communities.

    Cons

Promotions and advancements vary from business unit to business unit. Hard to get decent yearly raises. Promotions seem to work on favorites system instead of who is more deserving.

    Was highly ethical

I worked at Johnson Controls full-time

    Pros

Over my 10 years with JCI, the company was highly supportive and fair to me. I had multiple opportunities for growth and development. I was always struck by the high degree of ethical standards that we lived by, led by the examples set by senior leadership. I was very proud to say that I worked for JCI.

    Cons

I was very happy during my time at JCI. However, the events of the recent past have soured my view. The CEO should have been fired for his inappropriate relationship with an external executive coach. I was afforded the opportunity to be coached by her firm, and it now appears that such interactions were not kept confidential. This violates my trust. I am mystified why the BOD did not view this as gross misconduct.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Return to your ethical standards.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The company pays well and benefits are better than most.

    Cons

Most managers are more interested in networking up and preparing for their next job than they are in coaching/developing their employees. Of course, there are the rare exceptions. Constantly shifting priorities make it hard to focus and understand where how to measure impact.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to coach and develop your employees and make sure your manager values that contribution to the company.
