Former Employee – worked at Juniper Networks full-time for more than a year
Pros – Wonderful physical location with a positive culture. Great products with tremendous potential to deposition the 800 pound gorilla. Great work/life balance and if you are in with the right group, you have it made.
Cons – Fantastic company that has been completely mismanaged by refugees from MSFT and Nortel. For the past two years, there has been a long litany of 'rearranging people' so rather than being a technology company, they have become an HR company. Juniper really took many steps back by bringing in fat cats from "failed comanies" to run the show. This created an attitude of complacency where mediocrity and management by checkbox is rampant amongst senior management.
Advice to Senior Management – Time for a house cleaning. Bring back Scott and others that cared about the company and the people that worked there. Unfortunately, the good people are in exodus en-masse and you dont even realize it. Note to executive management....all of your "report cards" are not helping the company. Put your resumes up on linked in and let Juniper heal from your reign.

Former Employee – worked at Juniper Networks full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Juniper has excellent salaries and can be a great working environment with wonderful coworker!
Cons – There are a few bad apples in managerial positions at this company and if you get on their bad side they can hurt your career and tarnish your reputation. When I left the company, I was under the impression that what I saw and experience was isolated. Yet, since my departure I've met others who were treated unfairly and not supported by HR. I don't think this experience is limited to Juniper but proceed carefully if you step into a visible role in this company.
Advice to Senior Management – Do more to help worker advance and get out from underneath managers who have are undermining careers. You're loosing good people! Also, consider creating a mentoring culture to protect the investment in your people.

Current Employee – been working at Juniper Networks full-time for more than a year
Pros – Some of the smartest experienced engineers, got things done, needed minimal information. Most time left in business cases and getting projects approved. Engineers took care of detailed technical requirements
Cons – 18 month process for even small software enhancements. Just too slow to do any enhancements. Take too long to partner, too long to launch products.
Advice to Senior Management – Speed, speed, speed !!!
Have a different process for application software, core OS and routing, otherwise can not remain competitive in the market

Pros – Good colleagues and good technology. Good work-life balance, opportunity to work remotely and so on.
Cons – Slow to move, top performers not necessary rewarded and too many levels. The company grew a lot quickly and show growing pains.
Advice to Senior Management – Better focus and goal alignment is needed. Reward better your top performers

Former Employee – worked at Juniper Networks full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Internal tools are pretty good. There are lots of information for collaboration. The campus is pretty convenient for public transportation. Free VTA passes for employee. Overall total compensation is competitive.
Cons – Upper management can seem paralyzed when decisions are need to be made. Decisions to continue or stop investing in projects are not made early enough. This hurts not only the financials but also the morale of people who poured their heart and soul into these projects.
Advice to Senior Management – Take the chance and make the decision. Sitting on the fence will cause you to lose time and opportunities.

Former Employee – worked at Juniper Networks full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Competitive pay, smart people, growth industry.
Cons – Lack of leadership in marketing department. Siloed organizations, political infighting, working for protection and funding of individual departments rather than advancing the goals of the company. Work culture built around meetings rather than work.
Advice to Senior Management – Weight senior management rewards more on revenue than stock price. Review number of meetings occurring at every level of department. Are all participants required? Are the meetings useful to all participants?

Former Employee – worked at Juniper Networks as a contractor
Pros – A lot of great people. Lots of talent and drive, but managers tend to micromanage in certain areas, especially in upper middle management levels.
Cons – No strong leadership, a lot of turnover. For lack of a better term, wishy-washy. Very little in the way of overall vision and follow-through. When the occasional dead wood crops up, a more efficient way to prune under-performing employees would be helpful.
Advice to Senior Management – Develop an overall corporate vision, get your managers on board, and let the people who do the work DO the work.
