    Pros

    Conveniently located from my home.

I worked here during a very dark time in the Construction industry.

    Advice to Management

    Be loyal to your employees

    Pros

Good Salaries and decent benefits. They do a good job of corporate branding and team building.

    Cons

It is an economic home builder that wants to crank out economic houses for good margins. There is nothing wrong with this, but it feels more like an assembly line rather than a premier developer. Corporate executives make decisions on local communities even though they lack micro economic knowledge on these metros. Decisions are often made like high frequency wall street traders....in essence if executives read a headline that the home market is slowing they could be firing, if they read a headline that says otherwise they will hire. So basically there is not a lot of stability or long-term strategy. It is make a profit quickly at any expense. They are not thinking of 5 or 10 years from now.

I have been working at KB Home full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Name is ok depending on division, decent experience, some of the people are great

    Cons

No opportunity for advancement, way too much corporate reporting, only thing that matters is what people in LA think, no decision making at the local level whatsoever

I worked at KB Home full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, good training program and team building.

    Cons

The company tried very hard to portray a "shiny" image when things were in chaos in the office. Of course this was during the building boom of a few years ago and things may be totally different today.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

-Great potential income -You get a draw check when you have no closings (caps at 10K) -usualy laid back place to work

    Cons

You dont get paid any commision up front, so you can starve until closing. You will not recieve the hot communities to sell in unless your close with the district manager You will be treated like a child ( it is not uncommon for your DM to call your appointments to make sure your not making them up, then your buyer comes in wondering why your boss was checking on you) You will be required to attend "Call A Thons" where you drive to corporate with all of your reg cards so they can listen and make sure your actually calling your buyers. VERY POLITICAL ENVIROMENT Get used to being the badguy as you watch shady practices be used on buyers (EX: two of your buyers family members get killed in a natural disaster overseas and even though construction has not begun on his home you are told to not give him back his earnest money.)

    Advice to Management

Quit and let more inteligent people fill your roles.

    Pros

KB pays well, but they will wring every ounce of life out of you.

    Cons

Few people get promoted from within, rather the company routinely seeks new personnel from outside the organization

    Advice to Management

Treat your people more fairly. Learn to develop your people and promote from within. KB has good people who deserve the opportunity.

If you did not work on your own in a neighborhood with cool workmates working for KB Raleigh sucked.

    Pros

Money was good. As a field superintendent you have lots and lots of freedom.

    Cons

Pressure. They have BS standards of not closing a home unless it is 100% complete. If you find a nick in a cabinet at the final walk through you are not supposed to close the home..... totally stupid.. You have to ask the homeowner not to say anything about the issue. If they don't agree then they can't close... Stupid. Housing markets are very bad right now. 90% of emplyees laid off. Raleigh is now under completely new management..

    Advice to Management

Make monthly CSI realistic. You want "fake" numbers. You want us to beg for the 10 even when the homeowner is not completely satisfied. This is very misleading and our yearly scores reflect that. We don't want honest feedback from the homeowners. 100% complete is a great standard and the only standard there should be but we are not robots and do not live in a perfect world.. Frequently minor issues will be found at the final walk through. In fact they always will if the home buyer starts to look. Need a realistic policy other then trying to get the home owner to sign off with the threat of not closing.

    Pros

KB Home as a company is one of the best builders in the business as far as it's organization is concerned on a corporate level. Education is very important and is pushed by management.

    Cons

The Raleigh division unfortunately was vary disorganized at the local level. We built a lot of houses and did some good work but management and leadership was very much lacking. The right face was usually put out in front publicly, but it wasn't backed up internally.

    Advice to Management

Not much since most have been fired or layed off!!
