    I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time

    Pros

KLA Tencor offers good work life balance. Work is simple, easy, and boring. Depending on group you can have flexible working hours.

    Cons

Boring company. Very political. Upper level Finance management does not care about lower level employees. Very self-interested environment. Work is very slow most of the year except for quarter end. This is not an innovative company. Ambition is easily killed. Go to any other employer in the Bay Area.

    Advice to Management

Care more about employees. Make them feel valuable. Try of encourage change and innovation instead of rewarding conformity. Lower level employees feel that management does not care.

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Not an engineer. I just work in IT. Toxic environment here full of empire builders. Just horrendous management and employees who just don't care

    Cons

This place has got worse over the years. No one has a good word about anyone who is left. Those who stay get promoted regardless of ability. No credibility or judgement at all. Zero leadership. Protect what you have. Awful. Awful. Awful place

    Advice to Management

Learn from the annual review if its ever published. People in IT hate it here, Why ? Toxic management. Do nothing and the hate breeds forever

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the people are not so bitter, but the vast majority are. Those who are not, are managers who cannot get a job elsewhere The IT managers seem to be able to survive with no great turnover. They kill what little enthusiasm is left. but you need to smile, keep up appearances and continue to go to the team lunches otherwise you may be accused of not being a team player. You need to keep playing the game Knowledgeable people receive very little respect. It is really shocking but people get used to it since you can easily survive by playing up to your manager and do very little work. Get angry from time to time. It covers your backside and makes you look strong. Again, you need to play the game Lots of ways to look busy and cruise the internet

    Cons

A really poor and abusive work environment where survival is the key and has been for years There is really no incentive to do well nor to get ahead since it's never recognized. The key is to go slow and take your time. People have learned that over time The IT management team do not listen nor do they appreciate the hard work of key individuals only political ones. Look at the complaints made in the annual review year after year. It never ever ever changes IT low level and senior IT Managers have little credibility and really poor skills and are incredibly incompetent and disliked but play the game very well, so you need to do the same. I don't respect them. I never have. It makes me sick People are not proud to work here. In fact it is the complete polar opposite. I just tell people I work in IT. I don't tell them I work here There is an increasingly negative work atmosphere with people desperate to get out. Look around. Compare it to what it was 5 years ago. All the talent has long gone. It's just the old timers here and the sad and pathetic It's a really terrible company to be associated with. Go do a search for all the bad reviews in this company. You'll find that half of them come from people in IT. They can't all be wrong can they ?

    Advice to Management

It's hard to offer advice when so many have left the IT department or are inclined to leave if they can. Survival is the key. Remember, people may be nice to your face, but behind your back it's every man or woman for themselves. It's sad, but it's real

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It makes me upset to see all these people complaining about IT at KLA when they're part of the problem and in fact nothing ever gets done. No one takes IT seriously. They are a joke of a division. The number of people who have spoken out are testament to that.

    Cons

The managers are horrendous to deal with. They feel entitled particularly the ones who have been here for years. Someone complained on this forum about the CIO's lack of ambition when in fact they themselves have stayed in the same SAP support position for years. I don't respect any of them. I've witnessed so many changes and lack of trust and respect everywhere. Sadly it will never change. It is endemic. The only way to get ahead is to play the game i.e to look busy, big yourself up and put others down. It is the KLA IT way. Or should I say, it's their way or the highway. I stay because I have to, despite all of that. It feels hopeless

    Advice to Management

As someone mentioned earlier. Get rid of the poor IT managers who we all complain about. They are poisonous

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

You can get away with anything in IT. Some people here work 3-4 hours and are gone. No one cares at all. Promotions from the old boys club is the norm

    Cons

It is unbelievably abnormal and disfunctional how this IT department functions. You have a serious serious malfunctioning department which is controlled by bullies who promote the favored few. there is absolute complete disregard for doing great work. the best people left a long long long time ago. What you have left are the low level and Senior IT managers who are completely unemployable elsewhere. There is utter and complete cronyism and garbage here. Complaints are completely disregarded. the annual review is a joke. the annual survey is an exercise in futility. Seriously, just scan through all the IT reviews in this company on this site, particularly from the old timers. This place is an absolute mess. They promoted the Senior Service IT director to VP. What an absolute joke of a guy he is. Half the people who work under him, have an utter disregard for him and speak badly about him and his cohorts behind his back. It's just a terrible place to work

    Advice to Management

IT management. Just do everyone a favor and just leave. This place used to have such high standards. They've gone. Forever.

    Cesspool called Corp IT

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can pretend to be busy and nobody notices.

    Cons

All reviews posted so far lead to a conclusion that Corp IT is a cesspool. Every time you think things can’t get any worse they do. The CIO who is a superstar in his own mind, is here for more than 6 years with no prospect of a change in his role or job. All his predecessors moved on to bigger and better things within 2 -3 years in the same role. Facebook CIO anyone? The same goes for most of his direct reports. I refuse to call them IT Leadership because they don’t lead, they are political puppeteers who play favoritism. They actually promoted someone to a director’s position last year when he can’t complete a single sentence without mumbling, someone to manager’s position who shows up for 3-4 hours a day. They tried to get jobs outside and failed miserably. So they stay back and flex their muscle. The only hope for IT to improve is to change the top tier and some of the middle tier management.

    Advice to Management

    Serious need to clean house.

    Pros

I work in IT and I can leave early and also work from home without anyone knowing what I'm doing, so that's a big perk

    Cons

Having to deal with backward and unoriginal thinking and IT staff who have been here for years. Having worked at many companies in the Valley, I find that the management here and to a great degree, the worker bees are absolutely clueless. There's no talent here, with people just sticking around to earn their monthly wage

    Advice to Management

get rid of the people who have been here for years. The place is being run into the ground

    Pros

If you are just a mediocre engineer, this is the place to play with the management and become one of "them".

    Cons

If you are a hardworking kick-butt engineer, you will be miserably mounted with works that pushed onto you. If you dare to complain, management think you have attitude problem, and give you nasty review.

    Advice to Management

Fire all middle managements across the board, otherwise this company cannot even stand on its feet.

I have been working at KLA-Tencor full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Location in Milpitas is good. But this has got nothing to do with IT. It continues to be an awful place to work. No one wants to come here, and you can tell from the lack of good people coming through or being hired

    Cons

I've worked in IT for several years and it's never been as bad as this. Middle and senior managers who have been here a long time bully others and take credit for peoples work. But nothing is done. Whenever issues are reported to the directors, they just push it back. It's so dysfunctional and depressing. We've lost over 30% of the people here and they're not replaced

    Advice to Management

There are no leaders here. You just have obedient yes men who are making life a misery for everyone under them. You've been told in countless internal surveys that this is a problem, but nothing is ever done. When it's been raised to you, you turn a blind eye. Take a good long hard look at yourself
