Current Employee - Advisory Associate  in  Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Advisory Associate in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Great benefits package. The firm will really take care of you. Connections to great experienced professionals, and a worldwide reputation.

    Cons

In the advisory practice, things get pretty hit or miss. The risk service line is world-renowned, but the management consulting line is newer, and underdeveloped.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in practice development! There will never be a true culture for advisory unless the knowledge base is developed and more easily accessible. Keep trying to break down barriers between service networks.

Partners don't do a great job of managing client expectations and making sure that the work really adds value (as opposed to looking good on paper)

Current Employee - Senior Administrative Assistant in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Awesome people, great benefits, great administrative support network. The people are great to work with. Definitely a great place for an accountant to grow their career. a place where people care about their work and doing a good job.

    Cons

As an accounting firm, the administrative team needs more support. There are many layers to get change done within the firm, it would be more effective if improvements took less time to happen.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

create an open channel to all levels and provide quicker action on ideas. if people think their ideas matter and can make changes, they will provide them. if they think their ideas go into a 'black hole' they won't say anything, because they think to themselves 'why bother' if nothing changes?

Current Employee - Tax Associate in Chicago, IL

    Pros

    Pretty cool people
    Big firm perks

    Cons

The oldest technology and office I have ever seen (but they are moving to Aon in June/July 2012)
    You never know your schedule.
I always seem to be working more than other associates.
Not a very flexible schedule since you have to work on manager schedules and some like to work 24 hours a day

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a life so you aren't working all the time, then your staff and seniors won't feel like they have to work all the time and maybe they would enjoy their job more

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Working with good people doing interesting work that is usually appropriate to your level. The High Performance Culture makes it such that you can't be a habitual underperformer and stick around. Tools aren't usually top of the line but are good. Still part of the big 4 but people and partners seem nice and genuine.

    Cons

Very demanding environment in what is a very lean organization. Hard to achieve any work life balance at any level of the organization. New office layouts are terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many competing and contradictory priorities.
