    I have been working at KPMG US full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Since the company is large, there are many resources available. One plus is the large amount of paid time off days you receive. Moving within the company and transferring to other geographic locations is fairly easy.

    Cons

    You are easily replaceable and management knows this. Long hours and lack of merit based bonuses. Salaries are below market and are not equal across the board for all employees at the same level. Employees do receive a good amount of vacation days, but it is very difficult to use these days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Increase salaries and bonus structures. Do not over-work your top performers. All top performers end up leaving the firm due to the lack of a work-life balance. Changeability is put on the staff and is an unnecessarily stressful metric. We should be doing good work and taking the time to do things right instead of worrying about our manager's budgets from low-bid projects.

    Pros

    Plenty of readily available software, if you know how to use them. Sometimes, there are food events. Partners can participate, but it's usually just the same one.

    Cons

    Core values from upper management to support staff do not apply. Brown nosing, cronyism, posturing and lies are quietly common from mid-management. Some other staff are worse. To stay employed, don't even approach HR, unless it's to say how perfect things are. Their only job is to cater to Partners. Just look down, take any attitude and do not disagree with anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    A good person will have more core values in their little pinky than most anyone in Tax will have in their whole body. HR is a joke. Maybe you just didn't notice there is a recession, but you may as well have taken away a person's home as well as their job.

    Pros

    Work with young people.
    Exposure to industry management.
    Professional training.
    Ability to take extended periods of time off outside of busy season.

    Cons

    No work life balance.
    Little opportunity to steer your career in your desired direction.
    Some (not all) of the people beg the question: "How did you get hired?"
    Compensation is less than impressive (in spite of what the magazines say). You are underpaid, so does it really matter if the firm pays for a treadmill once a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give individuals more control of their career so that can pursue their interests and fulfill their potential. Why not give the best associates the ability to choose their clients?
    Consider paying more to attract better candidates than the other Big 4. It is pathetic that KPMG is the least reputable firm in the US, when it thrives in other countries.

    Pros

    Good place to work if you are single. Good vacation for all levels of employees. Great benefits are offered. Salaries used to be better. Hit hard by recession.

    Cons

    Promotion is purely based on brown nosing. No correlation with performance. Technical skills are purely at staff level. Manager and above have huge sales pressure. Some groups are better then others. If you get stuck in the wrong group you are screwed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop treating each group as your own little kingdom. Separate sales from technical guys and put them on separate tracks. Move towards a meritocracy based system.

    Great place to start your career as a college grad. you get exposure to different clients and business models.

    Cons

    Management often times do not know how to manage staff and budgets - often requiring competent staff to clean up projects or eat hours while juggling multiple projects. Managers often micromanage for no partilcular reason.

    Listen to your staff about morale and stop causing competent staff to leave because you are play politics
