    Pros

You learn a lot but have no life during bussing season and several times in the year.

    Cons

No life work balance. I know this is somewhat normal for big 4. But 15 hour days 7 days a week for two months straight is just not right .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Exposure to many industries and markets.

    Cons

The managers/sr. managers and partners are out of touch. The hours worked (M-Sat) are ridiculous and the pay does not match up with the time spent. The people can be awful as well.

    Pros

There are no pros at KPMG.

    Cons

Admin staff is grossly undervalued and underpaid. Salaries are $60K and support 12 people...all who make between $190K an $300k +. Micromanaging, no work/life balance and expected to work 14 hr days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your admin staff in accordance to their experience.

I have been working at KPMG US full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of nice young people working here.

    Cons

I tried not to whine, but these were what I had experienced. I could not believe that KPMG or any of the big four accounting firms were listed as "the best employers" which also includes other companies like Google, Facebook, Genetec, etc. To my knowledge, those companies have much better work-life balance and were paid much higher.

    1. 80 hours a week or more during peak seasons (about 3 months a year) with no additional after-hour pay. I don't know if it is against any law. Some of my colleagues fell badly sick right after the peak season. One girl had a disease very unusual for her age according to her doctor.
    2. Some of the managers/directors don't care about staff accountant at all. One of the directors brought accountants on site at a client company and everyone had to work from 9am to 10pm. No breaks for food or anything. But the director sneaked out for lunch and dinner by himself without letting his staff accountants know. How cheap was that!
    3. Fresh accountants struggled by themselves without much help. They were supposed to get help from seniors and the managers. Unfortunately everyone was drowned in his/her own work. Few people really had time/energy to train fresh employees. I saw some of the fresh accountants still couldn't get the basics correct, even after she joined the company for one year. Sometimes I felt it was a joke to let them review the work from our outsourced division in Indian. The indian employees sometimes did a very clean job but our guys were trying to add errors during the review process!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The culture need to be changed dramatically. Unfortunately the current culture is dominating, not only in KPMG I believe, but in all big public firms. It is not sustainable.

    Pros

New office in Chicago. Though not space friendly yet new in look.

    Cons

Poor work life balance. I have seen almost 70% attrition in my team. Most managers grew up their hence lack dynamic leadership. Its like frog in the well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create work life balance, give opportunity to hear to new people and not to go by gossips of old teens of the team.

I worked at KPMG US full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

KPMG has a generous training budget, provides decent benefits and 25 days of PTO although some of that is used for mandatory time off at Christmas.
Some of the divisions of the firm seem hungry to embrace new capabilities such as design and agile software construction.

    Cons

KPMG acquired Cynergy Systems to become a player in the digital and mobile services field in March of 2014. The problem is, the firm, whose foundations are tax and audit, is the last place anyone looking for a great mobile app would call.

Rather than retaining the Cynergy brand as a KPMG company and leveraging the skills, passion, and knowledge of the experience agency they acquired, the partners are instead trying to remake the creatives and technologists into interchangeable firm resources that can be plugged in as generic management consultants outside of DMS. The firm has all of the overhead and regulation associated with a giant audit and tax company and a culture where "Jeans Friday" is a big thing. The partners who drove this acquisition do not understand, value, or promote high quality design, have no demonstrated capacity to produce usable software, and seem to either not understand or not care what motivates designers and technical wizards to produce experiences that massively exceed client's expectations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No advice. The choices to dismantle Cynergy that are being made by senior (partner) management are deliberate and the messaging to "deal with it" is becoming increasingly clear.

All that is left for now is to watch it come apart, and wait to see if a viable thing can be put back together from the pieces or not.
