I worked at KPMG US full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Compensation is good, time-off is generous, opportunity for advancement. KPMG offers a lot of perks to its employees which helps to make it a fun place to work.

    Cons

It's an accounting firm so it's not the most creative place to be but there are opportunities to work with people who have amazing backgrounds and you can learn so much just by being around them. There is a culture of competitiveness between difference sections of the company - negativity, back-stabbing. If you're a positive person and don't engage with the negativity, you'll be fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

I work for and with highly intelligent teammates. I feel valued and respected. I always have high quality resources in which to be successful. Company invests well in training. A lot of learning is through experience in public accounting so I am happy that I am learning from some of the smartest people I have had the opportunity to work for. Professional environment without being stuffy. Inclusive environment.

    Cons

As with any public accounting...busy season hours are awful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to value all levels of your staff. The little rewards of movie tickets, gift cards, sporting events, etc do make a difference. Please keep that up.

    Pros

Worldwide brand that is recognized. Training is top notch. Working with individuals who care about their jobs and have a good drive. Networking within accounting and finance networks is unmatched. Best place to start a career, and a good place to end up if you like it.

    Cons

Hours can be long and the competitive environment can lead to some intra-team strife. Can be difficult to give your all if family and community factors are present.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember what is was like to start in the firm and consider bring up the starting wage in order to better compete with local firms. Also, manage staffing as best you can. The money is there to increase the wage and add more workers and you should be know as the best place to work in town for all three of the important factors: prestige, work/life balance, and pay.
