Not too bad to work for but they keep asking for more and don't allow more hours to get it done.

Store Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Kangaroo Express full-time for more than a year

ProsThe schedule for management is good, m-f 5-3. You have to work one weekend and one overnight a month but this can be done in one shift, just pick a friday or saturday to do it.

Conslong hours, need more coverage at stores, the district managers don't care about the employees, they care only about the results. They need to pay more money for the non-managers for the stores, they need to realize that these are the people who the customer sees every day and 7.50 and hour does not motivate people to have great customer service.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop pinching pennies and allow store managers to run their stores properly, the way the hours allowed are computed is terrible and needs to be changed.

It was ok, but not the best

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Charleston, SC

I have been working at Kangaroo Express part-time for less than a year

Prosgood interesting people, work is rather easy, and manager is easy to work with

ConsAlthough they are easy to work with management sucks, customers are rude and obnoxious, and your expected to work for sometimes low hours my 38hrs went recently to 27 and others went down to 16hrs because the company director said labor was too high. This meant 1 person working with a huge line making it impossible to tell if someone is stealing or not and having to rely on the cameras.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to have more communication, and plan ahead when it comes to busy days not to mention order so one does not run out of coffee before the week is over.

Job for those who need small salary

Store Clerk (Current Employee)
Saint Augustine, FL

I have been working at Kangaroo Express part-time for more than a year

ProsA simply job good for just that, a simple job. Good for people who go to high school or need a second job.

ConsTerrible career path and if your not going to be full time you might as well find another job since the hours are low.

Advice to Senior ManagementI'd suggest listening and acting on employees suggestions. Most of what they say if they really care about the job is helpful.

Company is more concerned with top level management then Store Sales personell

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee)
Winston-Salem, NC

I worked at Kangaroo Express full-time for more than a year

ProsAs long as management supports store personnel, this job is not bad. Most Store Sales Managers work well with their lower level employees.

ConsThe Store Sales Manager(SSM) is totally responsible for everything that happens in the store. While that is a business as usual situation, most SSM's tend to leave their lower level employees out of the loop (unless they have done something that effects the SSM's). This has a tendency to disenfranchise these folks and hence supports a feeling of indeference. A well operated store (profit center) includes every employee and you can see ownership from each employee (not in Kanagaroo Express. Management generally does not support their lower level employee, but yet they expect these same employees to be loyal to the company simply because they have a job.

Advice to Senior Management`Treat your employees better, make them a part of the business (after all they are the front line contacts with the customers). Praise them for a job well done, correct them on a one-on-one basis only and give them responsibility is they are ready and want the extra responsibilities.
