I have been working at Kellogg Company

    Pros

It's nice to have the flexibility of creating your own schedule, for the most part. You have the opportunity to speak with many people each day when you're in and out of stores.

    Cons

Little work-life balance. Can be stressful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Part-time merchandising help needs more attention.

R&D is a great environment but the business side of it seems a mess. Battle Creek and surrounding area subtract from any benefits of working for Kellogg.

I have been working at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, managers that are eager to develop employees, and lots of free food. They are really working to make sure employees have enough time outside of work to get things done. Kellogg tries very hard to match their actions to what their views are and sometimes they succeed.

Pay is on the higher end of the pay scale but they sometimes make you come in at a lower level to "gain experience".

    Cons

Battle Creek and the surrounding area are no place for someone unmarried and/or without children and offer few jobs for spouses of those who are married. The Kalamazoo area has gotten a little better in the last few years but not to the point of being able to hold on to top talent. Everything is a drive and the towns basically shut down during the winter. Unless you love hunting, fishing, or farming there isn't much year-round fun to be had.

On top of this a massive reorganization is happening (plant closings, consolidating jobs, etc.) and everyone is on edge. There was a large population of folks that had been with Kellogg for 25+ years when I first started but this reorg is either convincing them to retire or forcing them to causing a rather large brain drain across the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open to change. Just because "it's the Kellogg way" does not mean it's correct or the only way of doing something.

I have been working at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Strong salary, decent amount of time off, great tuition reimbursement policy, exciting products, company store for employees, growth opportunities within the company.

    Cons

Could adapt a more flexible work-life balance program. Employees have the ability to work remotely or from home, but that is often not encouraged. Flexible work schedules like compressed work week are also not encouraged. With this being a large company, it often experiences re-orgs to keep up with a changing environment. This can be stressful for it's employees. They could also have a better on-boarding program. Other parts of the company may have a stronger program, but for the positions I have experienced, the onboarding/training programs were lacking. They are also very excel heavy in reporting, and this allows for much human error. They need to adapt more automated processes, through the use of IT systems.

I have been working at Kellogg Company

    Pros

    Salary, benefits, time off.

    Cons

Out-dated systems that are not industry standard. Too many hoops to get anything done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the folks in the field give input on new policy's

I have been working at Kellogg Company as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, quiet office environment, ample opportunity to grow within the company, dedicated training

    Cons

It appears there is a bit of disconnect between upper levels and management and lower level employees. The "vision" of the company seems to change more often than one would expect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it more clear how individual departments within the company can contribute to the overall vision of the company.

I have been working at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I have worked for Kellogg for 6 years and have been able to change positions and move to different facilites to gain more knowledge and new knowledge in areas of the business I was not familiar with. Kellogg worked with me to ensure I was getting the projects and other opportunities to fit my strengths and weaknesses to continue to grow.

    Cons

In some cases Kellogg jumps from one project to another without full implementation strategy so we work harder at reaching the goals set.

I worked at Kellogg Company part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Pay was decent for the job. You work independently and hours can be flexible. Supervisors were easy to get along with as long as you did your job quickly and efficiently. There was never a problem getting paid or questioning of hours worked.

    Cons

At times hours were restricted even though the amount of work was the same. The work can be physical, but if you know this coming in and are not afraid to work hard you will be fine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There could be times when upper management could talk with the people in the field instead of just their supervisors. The people in the field can make suggestions on how the company can save money.
