I worked at Kelly Services as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Independent culture. Not looking over your shoulder but offers consistency in an otherwise difficult job market. On site manger is great and professional.

    Cons

Pay is not great. No benefits and there is a true sense that you are just a number but given the market, that is completely how the reality of the situation is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More growth opportunities and higher pay. Benefits would be nice, too. How about a 401k option!?

I have been working at Kelly Services as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

As a contractor, I have flexibility to leave my long term contract. The host company isn't willing to commit to me, and I feel the same freedom. Because my host company is Fortune 500, my hourly wage is better than average.

    Cons

My role is long term temporary, and the host company is not kind to its contractors. Kelly tries to support us as best they can, but they are limited by the contract with the host company. Vacation time and other benefits are seriously deficient, considering I am a long term employee, not a Kelly girl who bounces from one contract to another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nearly all of my two-week paid vacation is used on days the host company has off. Renegotiate our contracts to allow us some level of vacation time that doesn't have to be used in such a way.

I have been working at Kelly Services

    Pros

I would say it's a great way to experience many different kinds of jobs.

    Cons

With temporary work, you're totally at the mercy of the client paying Kelly Services. I kept expecting to make $10/hr, but with this recession, generally I've only landed $10/hr when it's a shorter-term assignment. I worked for two years doing data entry with a client, and only earned $9/hr back in 2010. I'm sorry, but Kelly seems to be taking advantage of the fact that there are a lot of people out of work who will work for very little.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want top employees, be willing to pay a little more for it.

I worked at Kelly Services full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great education program and training, some flexibility especially with right manager if they allow you to meet your clients / candidates in person, good salary (base) and great benefits, good managers (mostly) however too many of them, solid ability to advance and transfer across nation.

    Cons

Very bad bonus structure that focuses on contract fee's being most important (i.e. staffing and temp) over direct placement and those temp positions even in Technical side are supposed to be more tech / admin side then actually a focus on the specific technical area you are recruiting (i.e. engineering tech instead of quality manager); low bonus percentage; a lot of managers and high manager turn over with not enough actual workers; Communication between all the managers is often poor and the structure for the Professional Technical Recruiters is in flux with a drive for metrics based job reviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many managers overseeing sometimes only 2 employees, open line of communications by limiting number of people that the communication has to go through and also make sure that all executive management is on the same page. Reconsider the Professional and Technical side of things as something to be grown seperate from the Staffing side not to be compared nor trying to fit into the staffing box.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a relationship with those you employ as a contractor. Keep them in the loop when the call in.
