I have been working at Ketchum full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Big-name clients People Ensured career for life Competitive pay

    Cons

Ketchum may be one of the top global PR agencies, but if it doesn't start innovating its practices, it's not going to stay afloat. Ketchum is too top heavy, and doesn't provide enough support or appreciation for their junior staff. Some people aren't suited to be managers, and Ketchum should hold them more accountable, as they hold the careers of junior members in their hands. Serious hierarchy issues among VPs.

    Advice to Management

Hire more junior staff and support them with great managers, transparent promotion process, and decent coffee.

    I worked at Ketchum full-time

    Pros

The most senior leaders are great and care about the company, but that's about it.

    Cons

Do NOT get sucked in at this major firm- they will chew you up and SPIT YOU OUT (and regurgitate). Where to begin? MEAN leadership (passive aggressive people, being shooed away, clear cliques, tense people etc.) severely disorganized HR team, absolutely NO work life balance, high turnover rate, overrated programs (Summer Fellowship program, Camp Ketchum, Ketchum Acts of Kindness, etc.) no one cares, it's all for show. They are cheap, only provide coffee, alcohol (on Fridays) and bits of chocolate at the front desk. Just about no perks to justify the lower than average pay. I absolutely DO NOT recommend to anyone. They will cripple you.

    Advice to Management

Take care of you employees- especially entry an mid level. Hire the RIGHT people to take burden off of the overworked. Sort out HR and sort it fast. Use Ketchum Change on your own company. Pay people more. Have internal audits. Make sure all practices are aligned and represent the proper Ketchum culture (as it's not the same in all practices). Stop hiring COLD people, make sure everyone is team oriented and not SNOBBY. I can go on for days. Get it together, Ketchum. I have had a miserable time here and I know other coworkers have, as well. It took me a while to write this as I did not know how to express my disappointment in this company.

I worked at Ketchum full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great reputation and resume builder

    Cons

The new HR is disappointing and childish. They play favorites based on cliques and power rather than talent.

    Advice to Management

Ole boys networks get you into trouble eventually (even when they are women)

I worked at Ketchum (More than a year)

    Pros

Other companies think this is a good place to work so it will be helpful for your career advancement. Put in a 2 year bid and now everyone is so happy to hire someone with agency experience. YAY you!

    Cons

IF you are a young talented person of color, AVOID AT ALL COSTS After having my work stolen by an older freelancer. I found that there is preferential treatment based off of age. Ketchum is very "cliquey" and you can work as hard as you like but if you're not "in" then you won't get ahead. This place if full of backstabbing people who only know how to give directions are fear doing any real meaningful design. It's sad because anyone outside of the design department wouldn't know any better. If you want to have your ideas stolen and be underpaid and have your name tarnished by those around you, then work at Ketchum.

    Advice to Management

Replace yourselves with people who actually know what they're doing. How can you have creative managers that don't know BASIC Adobe CC functions and be so blind to how they are treating the people they are managing???

I worked at Ketchum as an intern

    Pros

Good name to have on your resume.

    Cons

RUN! Management is awful. They do not value they're employees and will work you for no money. Horrible culture and you will hate yourself for taking a position at this company when you had other offers. Only take if you absolutely can't get a job somewhere else. Also HR is not your friend ever. They work for the company and are there to protect it

    Advice to Management

Value your employees. Pay them what they're worth and stop treating them like they don't help make the company

I have been working at Ketchum as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people seem nice, considering it's a PR & Marketing company. Most staff seems more junior and inexperienced than their titles would imply.

    Cons

Very disorganized & understaffed. Billing to a client is more important than producing good work - even half an hour of downtime will cause a call from HR/Finance to find out exactly why. Out of touch managers, at least on the digital side, who seem to have trouble managing even a small team with a not especially heavy workload.

    Advice to Management

Get your acts together, or good people will stop walking through the door - assuming filling seats isn't more important than people interested in doing good work, that is.

    Pros

High Profile clients, brands and projects

    Cons

Ketchum is a work environment in which firedrills and last minute, sister PR team and crazy client requests are the norm. There is very little time to prepare well thought out strategic plans. Everything is last minute. Employees are expected to write presentations and routinely work during major holidays like Thanksgiving and SR. Mgmt doesnt even say thank you for working over the holiday. SR. Mgmt email and expect employees to work all hours of the night and day, evenings and weekends. SR. Mgmt. expects employees to travel on their personal time like weekends and evenings rather than during business hours/weekdays. SR. Mgmt are workaholics

    Advice to Management

    Embrace Work/Life Balance.
