    Pros

Great benefits, great training program, management notices and acknowledges those who put in the effort, lots of opportunities to move around

    Cons

Office politics and favoritism are rampant in some offices, hours can be long but are ok if you like what you do

    Advice to Management

Office politics should be left out of the workplace. Recognize competent employees.

    Pros

Kiewit has one of the best internship opportunities available. It is very structured with additional work load outside of your job description to fulfill your internship requirements. Working with Kiewit has been a great experience.

    Cons

I live in another city 4,000 miles away. They have my internship in Aurora, CO. They move you around a lot to where the work is, which is understandable but I enjoy staying in one location.

    Pros

Fair compensation and regular raises, flexible and reasonable hours, ability to see projects around the world, good, comprehensive benefits package.

    Cons

Inconsistent management, quite polar when it comes to the amount/quality of work to do, might be expected to move very long distances for long periods of time on short notice.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved in your employee's work lives.

    Pros

I really enjoyed my time at Kiewit. I worked with many of the most talented people in the industry. Health care and 401k were good benefits. It wasn't an extremely stressful environment compared to some of my other jobs.

    Cons

The work/life balance was poor. I worked 6 days a week regardless of whether or not I had anything to do. You were expected to be there 6 days simply because everyone else was there. So, I'd sit on a job twiddling my thumbs at times. And yes, you never know where you're going to be. In a span of 8 days, I went to jobs in Denver, Fort Worth, Dallas, Louisiana. That's difficult when you have a family. I also felt as if they titled the position as "Business Manager" just so they could get away with paying less than industry standards for an accountant. No, the job isn't 100% accounting, but the vast majority of it is. But, if you call it something else other than "Accountant", you can pay less.

    Advice to Management

Basically, don't "force" employees to stay at work even when there's not all that much to do. Sometimes 6 days a week of work isn't required. I was spending 60-70 hours a week on some jobs when 45 would have cut.

    Pros

Kiewit really is a fantastic company to work for, especially if you are a recent grad. There are so many learned my opportunities and lots of room to soar in your career. Kiewit has excellent development programs, a firm structure and intelligence in place for every aspect of project management, yet they humbly seek out advice from their employees regarding process improvement. I enjoyed every minute of working here and would recommend to anyone looking for a place where they can sink in roots and grow and learn. Kiewit is the kind of company who will be loyal to you for life if you are loyal to them. As an employee you have infinite access to professionals in your field.

    Cons

A few things, they are a bit too proud of their benefit offering, which is by the way, pretty good, but they low ball salary as a result. It's a bit good-old boy, and not very diverse. Also, raises often don't follow promotions.

    Advice to Management

make compensation more equal. Some employees are severely underpaid compared to their peers. Audit your classifications and bring more gender equality in the work place.

    Pros

The comraderie while working on projects was the best part of my experience with Kiewit. I gained a lot of knowledge of the Oil, Gas, & Chemical industry that helped me move on to a new employer. For gaining experience and a good resume builder I would suggest working for them after graduating college. The perks can be good as well like work vehicles, relocation, corporate card, etc.
You will get to travel which I enjoyed and after gaining some seniority you will obtain perks along the way.

    Cons

They try to breed chiefs and do not take care of the Indians. You can typically walk onto any project and see that 1/4 of the engineers are happy because they are getting treated fairly well. The other 3/4 are plotting their escape due to work hours, no recognition or becoming the scapegoat for a doomed role they were handed. And as all large companies work their will be politics when trying to climb the ladder, so you will experience a lot of two faced yearly reviews.
Also be prepared to work 6 days a week while your on a project, they make money off under staffing and over working field engineers.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget about the people supporting the bulk of the work.

    Pros

They offer a lot of responsibility and the chance to prove yourself. Offer a competitive health insurance plan an a good 401K contribution. You are always busy and doing something different throughout the year and possibly month to month.

    Cons

Long hours, Limited life-work balance for the first few years no matter what they say or how they try to enforce it the facts remains it is near impossible to have a work-life balance until you reach a higher status within the company. Pay is not worth the reward unless you like to work for free. Take your salary and divide it in half then you will have your actually salary pay since you will be working 60-80 hours a week.

    Advice to Management

Find the right people. I see a lot peers that have far more opportunity than others and they are missing out on key players that most likely will leave due to lack of management of talent and opportunity for up and coming employees. Buddy/political situations get in the way far too often.

    Pros

Scholarship, great resume builder, great experience while in college to help determine career goals and ambitions. Great company, great reputation, very healthy company financially and very stable due to longevity and competitive advantage.

    Cons

Long hours, a little unstructured/unclear on expectations for certain roles (estimating office).

    Pros

Great experience will be gained. Benefits package is one of the industry's best. Safety culture is out of this world.

    Cons

Long hours. Work life balance does not exist. The pay is far from the industry's best. Expect to do your job and the person's just above you in the flow chart.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate your policy on work life balance. Pay your people a wage that is competitive with other salaries in the industry.
