Good place to get multi-disciplined experience

    Engineer (Current Employee) Ingleside, TX

ProsField Supervision has a wealth of knowledge to learn from and are excellent mentors to staff engineers.
Project Management challenges team to improve and take on new tasks. Also good mentors.
    Training is available and encouraged.
Never boring - Always something new and exciting ahead.

ConsCompany has problems with staff retention because of the demand to work unreasonable hours without compensation.
Company preaches work/life balance but doesn't walk the talk.
Hard to move up in the ranks unless you rub elbows with the right people.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't be afraid to look for talent in less obvious places. Just because an employee is not aggressive and constantly trying to impress the boss doesn't mean that person doesn't have unique value to contribute to the company.

    Pipefitter with Kiewit offshore

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits, rewarding work, lots of overtime, good teams and support. Overall I had a very positive experience working for Kiewit.

ConsTraffic getting to work in Ingleside was a pain. The access to the yard was so little that I would sometimes spend an hour in a traffic jam before work began.

    Great Company to Work For

Engineering Tech (Current Employee) Ingleside, TX

    Pros-growth opportunities
    -decent pay
    -great benefits package
    -friendly craft and staff employees

    Cons-long hours
    - no "heads up" to when you'll be working a 12 hour shift as opposed to an 8 or 10. So, you cannot
make any sort of plans in advance.
-home life ceased to exist unless your spouse works for Kiewit too.

Advice to Senior ManagementInstead of seniority getting the raises and "move-ups", you should move up and higher pay the men and women who know what they are doing and who work hard and are punctual.

Good Experience for Entry Level Engineers

Field Engineer (Current Employee) Ingleside, TX

Pros- Work on world class projects with big time clients
    - Gain responsibility quickly
    - Good Benefits
    - Static Location (Pro for Construction industry)
    - Dynamic situations lead to time flying at work

Cons- Craft seriously make double your salary, though you were comparable hours
    - Excessive Work Load
    - Excessive Hours for pay
    - So many engineers that it's difficult to shine
    - High turnover

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a cost analysis as such: Determine the cost of training, salary, etc for current engineers and then factor the cost of losing said engineer and having to hire a new engineer; then compare to just bumping current engineers salary, or offering bonuses. Seriously, you might be surprised that spreading the wealth may in fact lead to lower cost!

Once in a lifetime work opportunity, low pay...

Field Engineer (Current Employee) Ingleside, TX

ProsWork is absolutely amazing, and the opportunity here is endless if you put the effort in.Great learning grounds for oil and gas and heavy fabrication. Management here is really stepping up their game to become new age company.

ConsLow pay for the industry. Great employees are sometimes overlooked. Location terrible.

    Advice to Senior ManagementAccept change...

Excellent opportunity for growth, great atmosphere, strong values

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Ingleside, TX

ProsThere are excellent opportunities for advancement for those that deserve them. They make you feel like part of the family and value your opinions. The values and ethics are strong and demonstrated by management.

ConsLong work hours, although they can be somewhat flexible if necessary. Good "you take care of us, we take care of you" atmosphere. Separation between staff and craft is obvious.

Advice to Senior ManagementHiring additional people to lower the number of hours required. 60-70 hours a week is normal, although I truly love my job and the time flies. Raising the salaries to reflect those of other large construction companies and Kiewit districts would help retain the good employees who only need to work 50 hours a week to complete 70 hours worth of work.

    Lots of opportunity

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVery valuable experience, rewarding work, and a balance between field and office.

ConsEmployees work lots of hours and the pay is not the highest, but it is getting better.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more people. If engineers' workloads were lightened, they would be much more productive and happy. I know hiring is ramping up, but continue to hire.
