I have been working at Kimley-Horn and Associates full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Large company with many resources, however you are not just a "number." The opportunity is there to create your own team which then is like your own company but with the backing of a large company.

    Cons

This company is not for everyone, must be driven and a "people person" it is up to each individual to work on their work-life balance.

    Advice to Management

Keep reaching out to the employees to gather feedback on work-life balance, keep striving to retain women after they have kids.

I have been working at Kimley-Horn and Associates as an intern

    Pros

Kimley-Horn is very supportive of interns. I really feel as if they try and invest in the younger members of the firm.

    Cons

Sometimes the company can focus too heavily on profit margin and does not leave a little wiggle room for creativity. The projects that the Landscape Architects work on are not anything special.

I have been working at Kimley-Horn and Associates full-time

    Pros

I hate buzzwords, I really do. But Kimley-Horn has proven to be everything they told me it would be. You will work hard, you will be depended on, and you will be compensated for your efforts. You can learn a lot in a very short amount of time largely because you have the opportunity to get involved in a variety of projects. Not to mention, the benefits are incredible.

    Cons

You will work long hours, and its up to you to find a work-life balance. The UT goal is a hot topic around the office because yes, it's a hard goal to meet, but it's how the company stays profitable and offers the benefits that we do. It's also how you will grow quickly. The people who last here take pride in what they do and put a lot of emphasis on doing quality work.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with your team. Young analysts are eager to learn and to improve on our skills. Tell them what your expectations are, and if they're not meeting them, provide constructive criticism.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

If you are self motivated and have a strong work ethic, the company and its philosophy are structured to empower you for success. I have never worked for a company where the mission of management was so focused on the success of the employees.

    Cons

If you are not careful, the opportunity for growth will overcome your priorities of quality work. Also, the management philosophy of giving 115% effort was overwhelming at times. However, if you are driven and are passionate about your work, then you will absolutely flourish in this atmosphere.

    Advice to Management

Stay focused on you message to your employees. Honestly, I have no advice to the management team. I have never worked with a more inspiring group in my professional career.

I have been working at Kimley-Horn and Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

From day 1, we are expected to learn on the job. There is a lot of opportunity for growth, and the company invests a lot into developing its people. We truly strive to create an environment for our people to flourish.

    Cons

Sometimes work/life balance becomes difficult, but the supervisors are reasonable people and understand that work can't always take precedent.

    Advice to Management

Continue to develop younger staff and provide room for upward mobility.

I have been working at Kimley-Horn and Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For those working in other mid-size and larger design firms, there comes a point where your efforts are not in balance with your compensation and your career growth can stagnate. Happy to say Kimley-Horn total compensation is light years ahead of any design firm out there. Kimley-horn demonstrates this to you prior to hiring and delivers when you are here. There is no bait and switch, gaming, etc. You work hard and are successful, you are rewarded and rewarded handsomely. Their culture is open and you are encouraged and rewarded for helping others succeed. I always said, "okay, it can't be that good..." I have to tell you its more. This company is rabid about giving back to its employees. Don't be surprised if the CEO calls you up and takes you out to lunch, just because he wants to. In your first year alone, you'll have 3-4 official meetings to ensure you are being supported in the way you need. The practice builder approach fosters creativity and collaboration Very flat organization structure The CEO knows you by name Completely open financials for every employee to see Extremely good bonus programs for hourly and salaried staff Retirement program is simply incredible

    Cons

Nothing to report of major concern

    Advice to Management

Keep the stucture like it is. It works.
