    I worked at Kinder Morgan

    Pros

A lot of exposure to daily operations, incidents, meetings, customers, etc.

    Cons

Not enough structure to consider it a thorough program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It was a very beneficial experience but could benefit from more structure or have an assignment to turn in or present at the end.

    Pros

One main plus, is they demonstrated a genuine concern for safe work practices as well as production.

    Cons

The Co., had to meet the demands of the economy, so the employees had to make adjustments sometimes before they were ready.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate everything allowed, to everyone, on every level, as often as possible.

I worked at Kinder Morgan full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Professional work environment, great people to work with and for, mostly everyone wants to move the company forward/in a positive direction, paid parking/metro (huge plus), supportive staff. Overall I enjoyed most of my team and I miss them. My team rocked I wish them all the best!

Management's ability to not select certain employees who are disgruntled because she/they didn't get the job she/they applied for. Management's ability to not select certain employee's who lack real project controls skills. Management's ability to select employees who think reasonably. Management's ability to choose leaders who are experienced, diverse and able to lead and mentor employees. Overall I had no problem with my team, peers and my management. The management had sound judgement.

    Cons

Growing pains (still recovering from El Paso Merger), a lot of great ideas, but need one solid voice to take the great ideas and communicate one clear message. More defined processes and procedures.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not so much advice to management, but advise to the person who posed as me. Please get a life and do more constructive things with your time other than trying to slander the company's reputation and my own reputation.

    Pros

Flexibility to take on new projects. Great culture of teamwork.

    Cons

Minimal investment in education- tuition reimbursement packages only meet the federal tax free minimum unless your department is willing to sponsor you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you offered more in tuition reimbursement packages, people would gladly sign on for extra years.

I have been working at Kinder Morgan full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

As a whole, the job security at KM is outstanding as lay offs are non-existent, the benefits are on par with industry standard, and flexibility within employee's individual schedules is a plus. The respect and attitudes, employee v. employee, operations v. management are for the most part agreeable which helps with the overall atmosphere of day to day working conditions. Implementing safety features such as dual verification has helped mitigate controller miscues and provide an important aid for all controllers. There is plenty of room for growth within KM. Every sector of mgmt within the terminal has an open door policy and are always willing to listen to any and all thoughts, suggestions, or concerns.

    Cons

Employee turnover in regards to pipeline controllers has slowed drastically, but is and can be an issue. The HMI/SCADA for controllers is archaic and training can seem at times as sink or swim. The overall workload is unprecedented when compared to other Oil and Gas terminals and the pay does not come close to reflecting such output. Yearly bonuses are below average for controllers and the outline for how bonuses are calculated are poorly conveyed to controllers, especially when compared to the amount of product moved per employee, per console. Biased towards ex-military and KM has a "mgmt in waiting" program for ex-military. Although expectations should always be high, mgmt. yields an uncompromising attitude towards controller miscues when you compare the amount of workload and simply product being moved throughout the terminal.
