I am grateful for the opportunity to work for Kindred. It was a great experience.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Greenfield, IN

I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThey do care about their employees and residents. Strong companies must make tough decisions sometimes in order to maintain financial security. I'd rather skip my raise for a couple of years than have mine and many others' entire positions eliminated due to poor fiscal management. I have seen employees rewarded for a job well done and I have seen employees who make poor decisions and give poor care booted out the door promptly. EVERY healthcare company has had bad employees because there are just some people who are selfish and dishonest and don't care about others enough to be in this line of work. Those employees don't make it at Kindred. As for the benefits...there were no major changes until the Affordable Care Act so where does that blame really lie?

ConsNo real cons...every day has a challenge to overcome but that's life in the workforce.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to educate employees further on the why when it comes to those tough decisions. In the employee's mind it may be greed when in reality it is being budget minded to maintain financial health.

Review of kindred

Wound Certified RN (Current Employee)
Greensboro, NC

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time for more than 5 years

ProsVery committed to it's employees and patients. Strong business model.

ConsNo raises for nurses for the past 3 or 4 years. Kind of delayed in technology. Don't have a very strong consistency in protocol and tools building to building. Some times a disconnect between upper management to lower.

Advice to Senior ManagementI need a raise. Cost of living is a killer

Long term acute care

Registered Nurse (Current Employee)
Beaver, PA

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time for more than 10 years

ProsI enjoy seeing the progression of the patient who presents with acute and chronic illnesses. Hopefully they will move onward to rehab or home with discharge. It is nice to see continuity of care. This type of population tends to experience multiple health problems and I utilize my nursing skills daily. It is easier to note changes with long term acute care patients with same patient assignment.

ConsDifficult to help some families to adjust to chronic illness and terminal diagnoses. No one wants to go to long term acute care, they wanted to go home. Management not very supportive to staff at current facility where I work.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to follow better, safer patient care standards. I do not feel like the current management at the particular facility where I work is looking out for either my or the patient's best interest. It feels like they are only looking out for their bonus or status in the corporation. On the other hand, another Kindred I worked at the management team worked side by side with staff and were very hands on with patient involvement. I truly enjoyed working at the latter..
