Good place to start. Bad place to stay. Clerk to cake decorater

Cake Decorator (Current Employee)
Lakewood, CO

I have been working at King Soopers full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Decent health Insurance
-Weekly pay check
- Always looking for people

Cons-Terrible management
-Over-worked, under paid
-lazy secretaries

Advice to Senior ManagementHappy employees equal happy customers. When one of them comes to you for a problem or needs help, listen to them. Don't lie and abuse them. The management is lazy, and constantly lies tot he employees. If something goes wrong due to their lack of communication, it's the employees fault, never theirs. If the employee is overwhelmed, they don't care.

Just from my own experience, they won't train but continuously say they will. They will under pay you but still expect you to run a department alone.

This company is just terrible, but if you really need a job. They always hire.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Don't work here unless you absolutely have NO choice.

Bakery Clerk (Former Employee)
Aurora, CO

I worked at King Soopers part-time for less than a year

Pros-Friendly employees in most departments
-2 paid breaks

Cons-When you're new, you have union initiation fees ripped from each paycheck until it accumulates $200
-Union fees ($10) taken out no matter what
-Bad management

Advice to Senior ManagementI worked just as hard as everyone else in the department. Management treated me as if I never worked hard enough just because I was young; Moms with kids are not the only "hard workers".

only work here as a last resort

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at King Soopers part-time for less than a year

Prosif you need a fast job with ok pay and at lease 20 hours a week.

ConsHave to work different shifts. you will close at midnight and be opening 8 hours later. the tier system sucks, everybody get different holiday pay and Sunday pay. and the union is only around to take your money. the turn over rate is huge.

Advice to Senior Managementis their a reason no one wants to be a grocery manager.

Terrible

Checker (Current Employee)
Brighton, CO

I have been working at King Soopers part-time for more than 3 years

ProsThey pay you consistently, otherwise there really is not anything else positive to say about working here.

ConsThey frequently tell you one thing, and then do something different. They tell you upfront that you can get days off if you request them a week or two in advance, but this is just not true. It all depends on your seniority.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo better.

The worst place I have ever worked!

Cashier (Former Employee)
Thornton, CO

I worked at King Soopers part-time for less than a year

ProsMaybe the 10% discount on Kroger brand products. In this economy 10% for subpar product is nothing.

ConsNo flexibility in schedules. Have to wait a year to qualify for horrible benefits. Got sick and called in, was advised by the store manager that being sick was unacceptable.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to manage people as human beings and not objects.

Advancement based on gender and ethnicity rather than experience and qualifications

General Merchandise Manager (Former Employee)
Fort Collins, CO

I worked at King Soopers full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGreat co-workers, decent pay, good benefits, and decent low-end job availability.

ConsKing Soopers is a great place to work a job, but it is not a place to plan on establishing a career. I am a female, and therefore I am qualified to be in management. I still keep in touch with several current employees and this trend is worse than ever. Not only are more qualified, more experienced White, men passed up for job to "prove" diversity, the female managers have zero accountability in upper management.

Employees work most weekends and holidays throughout the year.

Advice to Senior ManagementI am a female and left the company because of the lack of integrity in the company values. I was asked to go to an assistant store manager interview when I had only been a department manager for three months. People want to feel valued and rewarded for their efforts, not simply given opportunities to meet quotas, which are illegal.

unrealistic expectations

Bakery Clerk (Current Employee)
Aurora, CO

I have been working at King Soopers full-time for more than 5 years

Prosin general the people you work with are great, customers are terrific, creative job

Consunrealistic expectations from management, morale is poor, management lacks direction, and has conflicting priorities, making success nearly impossible.

Advice to Senior Managementhave realistic expectations, make guest service the REAL priority, appreciate hard working employees, and show it!

Terrible

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at King Soopers

ProsYou can work part time and don't really have to think at work. It is a mindless job to do.

ConsThe managers are not understanding and people are rude. The salaries are terrible and the workers are on drugs at work.

Advice to Senior ManagementMost managers are ineffective and unfriendly. Treating all workers equally would be a plus. Not understanding about schedules at all.
