    Okay place to work

    Grocery Clerk (Current Employee)

ProsCo-workers are a lot of fun and there's a good team spirit.

ConsManagers tend to be chosen by length of service instead of competence for the job. Almost-insane regard for long years of service. Dept. managers chosen by "who's next in line," instead of critical examination of the person's skills, leadership abilities, and maturity.

Advice to Senior ManagementShare some of the benefits of "first-tier" employees with the large and growing number of underpaid "second-tier" employees.

In the beginning it was great, as time went on it wasn't so great.

Retail Clerk (Current Employee) Denver, CO

ProsGood benefits, you meet great people.

ConsLately was is expected is more and more. If you need time off and you're new, don't plan on it.

Advice to Senior ManagementI wish they were more considerate of their employees.

    Asst manager

Deli Assistant Manager (Current Employee) Littleton, CO

ProsPay is good and so are benefits

ConsStore managers can be awful or incredible but it can make or break how you like being a manager

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Bad job if you're a student.

Courtesy Clerk/Cashier (Former Employee) Broomfield, CO

ProsIt's a nice, social environment. The coworkers and management were incredibly friendly. It was a good experience for a first job. It's easy to move up in positions - I was trained as a cashier after working there for only a month.

ConsThe hours (maybe it's just at this location) were not flexible at all and they had me working 30+ hours while I was trying to finish my last semester of high school. Courtesy Clerks get paid minimum wage to collect carts outside in extreme weather (whether it's 100 degrees or below zero). Very fast-paced environment.

Patience is a virtue, full-time not so easy at the store level.

Customer Service Clerk (Current Employee) Denver, CO

ProsStore manager and department managers are good people and want good people.

ConsStart pay low and full time hours are very difficult to come by.

Advice to Senior ManagementTraining is average or less although there is a lot of Computer based training (CBT). One session of CBT does not help when your on the grocery floor with a customer in front of you.
Computer based scheduling makes a department managers job very difficult when they are trying to do what's best for both the department and the crew.

Don't expect to be a valued priority to the company unless you are on the salary payroll.

    Supervisor (Former Employee)

ProsRoom to grow at store level with various departments.

ConsStarting pay is horrible for all positions,
Courtesy Clerks are not eligible for and do not receive health benefits PERIOD
All other positions do get benefits AFTER 1 year of employment
Christmas and Thanksgiving are ONLY holidays you get holiday pay, everyone else on old contracts get holiday pay for EVERY SINGLE holiday.
No bonuses, No holiday bonus or incentives except a $1 store manager coupon if you're lucky
No time off requests unless you're in high school, otherwise you're expected to be on call at all times (not literally but they expect you to committ all your available time to bending over backwards for them)

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement does not treat anyone with respect unless you happen to be one of their favorite's. The company as a whole does not value it's associates with respect or dignity. Associates are not a priority of the company and the company did a great job proving it when holiday incentives were taken away from hourly employees just so store management and corporate could keep their twice a year bonuses.

A job yes. A way of life no.

Bakery Clerk (Current Employee) Denver, CO

ProsI work with some interesting and often fun people. Getting to be on first name basis with the customers is cool and I find them to be uplifting at times.

ConsSchedules for newbie part timers are very, well, unpredictable. Finding out on a Friday your schedule for the following week is a bit trying. Pay is low but insurance and 401K are available. The Muzak gets to me at night when things get quiet.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe published vision of the company seems appealing but you need to stick to it and stop with the favorites and treat the ones you lead with the same dignity and urgency that you demand on a whim.

    Struggle

Bakery Clerk (Former Employee) Lakewood, CO

ProsGood environment, an easy job but also keeps you busy

ConsThe union, people treated me badly

Advice to Senior ManagementShow more respect to the clerks, they work hard to make your store look presentable and keeps the shelves full of product

King Soopers has great opportunities with decent pay but you'd better expect them to throw you under the bus.

Grocery Manager (Former Employee) Centennial, CO

ProsWages were decent. Unionized. Plenty of hours usually. Always staffed, and not short-handed unless there was a call in, depending on the store. Good structure.

ConsThey ignore claims of sexual harassment and retaliate if you make such claims, because they don't want to deal with problems or God forbid The Union. They treat pregnant women horribly and tell them to "set the example" for the whole Night Crew...even 9 months pregnant.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider more Human Resource training in upper management. Have more training on policies and employee assistance involving disabilities/maternity and harassment. Don't make a family member a Store Manager who is not qaulified and cannot handle the responsibility.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
