I really like working for kirklands

Cashier/Stock/Sales (Current Employee) Cherry Hill, NJ

ProsGreat if you enjoy interacting with customers.

    Great sales and discounts.

ConsCommission should be offered to the sales associates/cashiers. We do alot of work; bringing heavy items down from the stock room etc.

In my store within the first 3 months of opening the store the store manager quit, 2 assistant managers, an associate and the store manager that replaced the first store manager quit as well. Oh, and the district manager as well.

Advice to Senior ManagementOnly send merchandise that is popular in that district and at that location. Shipment consists of items that do not sell which makes the back room over stocked.

Great products, fun people to work with but the company needs to provide safer equipment necessary for the job

Assistant Store Manager (Former Employee) Midlothian, VA

ProsGreat products, great discount, decent pay, very loyal customer base

ConsNeeds to have a more up to date computer system to make searching for a product easier which would provide much better customer service, something with thumbnails which had a sku would have been amazing..

Advice to Senior ManagementTry meeting your associates and ask them for new ideas that could help the company give even better customer service ;-)

    Seasonal employee

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCurrent employees are a joy to work with. Managers set expectations and scheduled me according to my current availability.

ConsBecause I applied to be seasonal employee only, I have no cons at this time. I'm still on the schedule each week thus far so I am happy although I'd be open to more hours as would many others but most only work between 5 and 12 hours per week.

The usually have a manual or plan of action for all tasks.
    Flexible hours

ConsUnless you are a manager the hours can be up and down.
Pay for part time employees isn't that great.

    Pretty cool part-time position

Team Member (Former Employee) Hanover, MD

ProsThis job was the perfect job for me to work while I was taking classes. The hours were flexible, the co-workers were easy to get along with, and the work environment overall was great. I loved that new stuff was put out every day, and the different tasks that I was required to do. No two days were the same.

ConsSometimes the hours got cut without warning. Also, we were located in a mall (it moved to a different location since), so sometimes parking was extremely difficult.

    It was a great experience.

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Melbourne, FL

ProsThey worked well with my school schedule. I had friendly co workers who were easy to work with. We all got along great and everyone was more than happy to help each other out. I would recommend Kirklands as a place of employment.

ConsThe only downside that I could see after racking my brain to find something would be that at the end of your nightly shift you had to follow the lead sales associate to a nearby bank to make the nightly deposit. This duty was not told to me during the interview process and the bank was in the opposite direction of my house. After working a long shift the last thing I wanted to do, was drive in the opposite direction of my house.

    Excellent value of product
    Diversity in product

ConsMust understand delegation to be successful
Must have excellent time management skills to accomplish tasks
Must have a firm grasp of business acumen to understand how to run your business

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to look at payroll model to added efficiencies. Might look at additional training beyond on boarding process to ensure all store managers are effectively running their stores.
