    Kohl's Isn't Terrible

POS Associate (Former Employee) Centerville, UT

ProsUsually nice people, at least at my store. The work is not that hard, and they are good about letting you do stuff for customers.

ConsLow pay, little hope of advancement. I worked there for a year and never had any opportunities to move up or even try to.

    Eh, it's not that bad

POS Associate (Current Employee) Fayetteville, NY

ProsThe discount is pretty good if you're into that, although to make the most have Kohl's Charge.

I wish I had more Pros I could think of.

ConsI think it's just my stores leadership that I have an issue with.
They like to pick favorites and turn the other way when associates illegally solicit credit.
If you work on POS expired coupons will become the bane of your existence.
You truly learn what slobs people are, and i'm not talking men. I am talking 30-60 year old women who throw everything around.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop making credit 99.9% of your business, you guys sell some nice stuff but when you're being bombarded to open a charge card and harassed it makes you not want to shop. Also change the color of the button to sign up for email nobody can find it.

ConsGet stuck working closing shifts if part time.

Advice to Senior ManagementGive us better wage increases.

Good Company if you are lucky with managers

Kohls Sales Associate (Current Employee) Coon Rapids, MN

ProsIf you are lucky with managers you'll probably like there.

ConsThough everything depends on the team also. Because a lot of people don't understand that they should work when they are coming there. And then it makes your life miserable, because "We are the team"? that means that everybody will help one another, but usually people who gets that understand they should not work hard, because somebody will come and do job for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to the people who are really working and who don't do anything. Though I should tell the management don't care.

    Great experience, slow career path

Associate Designer (Current Employee) Menomonee Falls, WI

ProsKohl's is a great place to start your career. Their internship program is stellar, and they have a very high rate of job placement for interns. Kohl's is in it for the long run...I believe that management is setting the company up to last. It might not be the most cutting edge place to work, but your job will be safe.

ConsIt is very difficult to move "up the ladder" at Kohl's. Teams are not consistent in their structure, so moving around between teams can be detrimental to your career growth. There is no formal training for managers, which creates additional inconsistency between teams and leaves some teams vulnerable to horrible management.

It was a great first job.

Seasonal Sales Associate (Former Employee) Covington, WA

ProsAll of the workers are very nice, if you needed a friend or help everyone was willing to help you, the store is always busy if you like fast pace environments.

ConsThere were really no challenges for me, everything was pretty much what you would do at any department store.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Eh

POS Associate (Former Employee) Newington, NH

ProsCompany values, schedule posted well in advance.

ConsPush credit cards too much, not enough recognition for good job, you "aren't doing your job" if you don't exceed the daily credit goal.

Advice to Senior ManagementSTOP WITH THE CARDS! The customers that don't have them don't usually want them, and the cashier's pushing them doesn't help! They get annoyed, and probably leave the store complaining about how many times the cashier (was forced by management to ask) asked them if they wanted to apply.

    Corporate Machine

Kohl's Merchandise Analyst (Former Employee) Menomonee Falls, WI

ProsFriendly people (but that's the midwest for you), great work-life balance, relaxed environment

ConsTons of red-tape, tons of corporate politics, wasted time spent on meetings that really have no true productive results that are conducted simply because that's just how it's always been done...

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow for change and creative/different minds to enter the company. The company will not continue to move forward with the same "Kohl's Mold" of a person that consistently gets promoted. Kohl's nearly has a cult following of the employees that love the company vs. the ones that do not. Stop "drinking the Kool-Aid".

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
