    Cool Place

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsIt's flexible, this job is ideal if you're a student looking to make a couple of extra bucks on the side

ConsThey don't really care about you're benefits. There should be a better hierarchy.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Well.....

Sales Floor Associate (Current Employee) Brooklyn, NY

ProsThe managers really are encouraging and they work hard, not only to please the customers but also to please you as an associate. The associates are friendly, good hires, most of them. There's always that bad egg wherever you go but its not the majority. Good employee discounts, food days, they pamper you when they can. Never a dull moment, there is always something to do, so if you are the type of person who does not like standing around waiting to do something then this is the place for you.

ConsWork load can get overwhelming on some days, its quite a popular store. Don't say i didn't warn you. Management will get a bit edgy around these times, but they express their gratitude afterwards. Also not the greatest paying job, but its among the average retail rate.

    Advice to Senior Managementcalm down...

Also if something more can be done to observe, control and direct customer traffic, then please get on that. Tiny table? less merchandise, Thank you.

Prosprofessional yet relaxed business culture, updated building facilities, secure building, integrity hotline

Conswork life balance, FMLA/short term disability agency is not good, Change leadership frequently, happy associates mean happy customers, holiday scheduling unfair and imposed instead of allowing associate input or flexibility, seniority (loyalty) is not a consideration in anything.

    Decent

Sales Floor Associate (Current Employee) Omaha, NE

ProsMy co-workers are great, and all the managers are friendly and approachable. I talk to everyone from security to other sales associates, to the managers when we're not in a rush. In my experience, if you ask for time off ahead of time, they'll give it to you. Everyone is always helpful, and co-workers are easy to get along with, even when they're stressed out. Managers consistently recognize your achievements.

ConsWe're almost always short-staffed, the employee discount is only 15% off except for certain times of year, and there's too much of a push to sell our credit cards and get emails. I don't know about the employees that have been around longer, but I only get $7.85/hour, and usually get scheduled for only once or twice per week. Also, the "yes we can" policy can get kind of ridiculous.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere needs to be more room for staffing. Employees are overworked with minimal benefits, especially the part-timers. You would reduce turnover if you'd increase the benefits and allow for more employees to be working at any one time. Several people have quit since I started working less than a year ago, and I've considered quitting myself.

    Fun place to work

Sales Associate (Former Employee) Woodstock, GA

ProsManagement for the most part is kind and positive. Its enjoyable to meet all the different people that come through your line. There is positive energy. Kohl's has a great approach to their customers and its nice to be a part of conveying that approach on a daily basis. The employee discounts are great.

ConsNot enough pay to continue to work there and be able to pay the bills. Good job if you have someone else in your family as the main bread winner.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider increasing the hourly wage to be more competitive with other retailers.

    It was an interesting experience

Product Development (Former Employee) Menomonee Falls, WI

    ProsName recognition
    Good cafeteria
Shuttle bus for the parking lot
    Training classes
Was able to buy additional vacation days pre-tax

ConsAdvancement was based more on who you manager was, how you looked, and not on job performance.

    Fantastic environment

    Sales Associate (Former Employee)

ProsI really enjoyed my time at Kohl's. The atmosphere is extremely customer service centered, and they encourage you to make every customer happy. It was really satisfying.

ConsTo put it simply, you start off at a higher pay bracket at other retailers than what I made after several years. It was fun but money was tight.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou are soo close to dominating the department store market. If you would just open the payroll bands from ultra lean to a mid range you would retain a better workforce, and provide consistent results. In my time there I watched many good people leave because of lack of hours or better pay elsewhere.

    Pretty Satisfied; Room for Improvement

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Santa Rosa, CA

ProsI get a decent pay, fellow associates are friendly, management takes in opinions, the company seems to be more caring of associates than most.

ConsHours get cut frequently (especially since they are constantly hiring), rude customers, some associates don't care about the work enough so the caring ones have to pick up the slack, management hires outsiders for upper positions more than promoting valuable/experienced long time workers, and only full-time associates get medical benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementI think it would be best to promote associates more, rather than hire from outside the store, because there are so many good workers already in the building. Also, don't belittle and talk down to the associates as much.

Kohls has wonderful employees and flexible hours, the only problem is the customers.

    Customer Service (Current Employee)

ProsThey are very flexible with my hours and work their best to work around my family and school time.
    Friendly emvironment.

ConsThe customers cheat the system and we cant say anything about it. We have to return their gross worn shoes and clothes from 5 years ago.. with a smile on our face..
