I worked at Kohl's full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Most of the people worked hard to keep the place clean, whereas Most of the customers worked hard to keep the place trashed.

    Cons

My time at Kohl's was thankfully short. Long hours, unnecessary work strategies, extremely poor salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say to replace most of the management but they already have.

I have been working at Kohl's (less than an year)

    Pros

    Team environment, fun atmosphere, discounts

    Cons

Impossible credit card quotas. I've worked in retail before offering credit cards, but you have to beg them to sign up. They train you to counteract every scenario where the customer declines.
    It's harassment!

    I have been working at Kohl's part-time

    Pros

    Employee discount, friendly environment

    Cons

Very few hours (almost zero for me since I'm still in highschool) no matter how many times I ask for more in any way possible. They force the sales team to push credit on customers and we barely make the quota most of the time, and employees get penalized if they don't meet their personal goal. They would rather hire 20 more people, before they even start hireing for seasonal, rather than give there current employees more hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being cheap with giving hours to employees and when you are low on payroll, instead of hireing more people, give hours to the people who already work there

I have been working at Kohl's as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Working as a consultant or hourly is great, promotions are a joke, leadership is focused on getting their work on the subordinates

    Cons

employees don't get a lot of time-off, work - life balance is a joke.work , office culture is more like working long hours, and is encouraged

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please help your team in assessing the real needs, perks are so so, Health insurance sucks, 401k match starts after 1 year

    Pros

Job experience working with people, good leadership examples, company taught me the value of being a team player

    Cons

The general manager was very distant. All of the department managers were wonderful, but the general manager was demeaning and harsh.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Limit the amount of garments allowed to be taken into the dressing rooms. On big sale days have more employees working on the floor.

More work than they pay you for

    I worked at Kohl's

    Pros

They gave decent hours and were somewhat understanding of other commitments

    Cons

They never scheduled enough workers in one day, especially during busy times, so you could end up working 2-3 departments by yourself. They would also schedule people to work the afternoon after they had worked an 8 hour graveyard shift. Minimum wage is also not enough to be paid for what you deal with.

I worked at Kohl's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Flexible with my school schedule.

    Cons

The pay is very low, after working there for 2 years and I only got 10-20 cent raises. I have worked every position, all the managers tell me I'm one of the hardest workers but yet the reward is basically nothing. Even when I told them I was leaving they where upset because they knew I was a hard worker . However in terms of higher pay they even told me to look else where. The good thing is that all the managers have agreed to give me great reviews for my upcoming interviews.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat everyone fairly , and help on the floor when you can. It would also be nice to be considerate of others and help them. (daniel).

I worked at Kohl's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Retail is retail and this place is pretty much the definition. I liked the discount but it wasn't that high. They would let us out early if they had too many ppl on the floor. There's a few managers and each manager has their different personality. The culture is very average. There's so many employees that its hard to stand out and not a strong feeling of working towards a common goal.

    Cons

The pay was barely above minimum wage so that hurt. There were people who got promoted but it seemed far and few apart. I had to work 4:30 on Black Friday. If it wasn't the holidays, hours were very hard to come by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try and up the pay somehow. Be more friendly and understand that happy employees will ultimately make your job better.

    Pros

Employees were kind. That was my first time being in an actual government (take your tax) job.

    Cons

Only one person out of all the seasonal workers got chosen. It was kind of shocking and hurtful, but we other candidates moved on. The one man probably still works there and is miserable. We were and we only worked for a short 2 months.

I worked at Kohl's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Kohl's attracts a lot of young students and college age individuals with its flexible schedules. It allows for some mobility within the company and to different stores. The store discount is lovely.

    Cons

The pay is very low, the hours are not great, management is often poor, and few incentives exist. In general, it just feels like a job where you will always be looking for something better. It is not a place where many people have a future. The push to sell credit cards is the absolute worst. The community becomes saturated but management still needs to push the cards, which only increases stress for the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your employees, give them reasons to stay.
