    Pros

Good benefits, flexible schedule, offer good incentives for their employees to succeed.

    Cons

Payroll stingy to the point where it is negatively affecting business, IT issues becoming a problem as they continue to upgrade technology in the store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more money back into the stores to drive better sales, service, and standards. Cut down on the amount of coupons and discounts so they actually mean something and you are not hurting your bottom line so much.

Everything depends on your managers- whether they know what they're doing and whether they are all on the same page.

    Pros

Some of the managers are very smart and good at resolving issues for customers as well as associates. You will learn a lot about people, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

    Cons

Some managers will bend over backwards for the customer whether its the same policy you've been told or not, sometimes leaving you looking like a little brat that didn't want to give the customer what they wanted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be consistent and make sure all policies including those related to customer desires are clear.

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The job is very fast paced and as a fitting room associate you wear multiple hats, which means there is always something to do and on a positive note often makes the shifts go fast and you will not be bored. I started working MJM (misses, juniors, mens) which changes the scenery and allows you to float and interact with other employees. Working in teams is very effective to tackle projects quickly. I had a very positive relationship with all of my coworkers. This was my first job and I had my first and second interview within a weeks span. The questions are very simple and ask things like past leadership experiences, how you would deal with multiple obligations at once, which department you want to work and why. In MJM it was also pretty easy to pick up others shifts to add hours a majority of the time. It was a decent first job.

    Cons

The training videos are very dull, but just muster through until experienced employees are able to train you on the floor. It is a company policy everyone must work a shift on black friday, but it tends to fly by. The customers are generally rude and you just have to smile as they leave 50 garments mangled in your fitting room to clean out, but the biggest con is the management when I was an employee. They give little support unless corporate is coming to do one of their store checks.

    I worked at Kohl's full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, perks & salary. There are still some great people.

    Cons

Job expectations, politics & staff cuts. If you do not know how to play or refuse to play the role of politian, you will be ID'd and worked out. All about job protection.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop the lip service & prove yourself as people managers first. They will follow you if you inspire them. Process improvement is not the only way to "skin a cat".

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Co-Workers: Amazing, simply put. Sure where I work we have a few who habitually call out. And they call out 2~4 times per week and usually on the most stressful weeks. And a few who putz around. But a majority of the co-workers are great, with varied backgrounds, and in general are a blast to work with.

Customers: Many of the customers are totally understanding and appreciative when you take the time to help them. Simple things such as folding their clothing at the register and asking if they remembered their coupons and suddenly you are getting rave reviews.

Management: While this is a grab bag, management does have it's very positive E3's. They thank you at the end of the day (if they catch you) and provide feedback on how to improve your work as opposed to scolding you for not doing it the way they want it done.

    Cons

Work-life balance is tumultuous, to say, at best. One day going in 6a-2p, the next 3p-9:30p followed by a 2a-10a. It's a blast. That being said this isn't the case in one week. Well, it can be, but generally not. Many times you are begging or scrounging for more hours, then suddenly you barely get a chance to get decent rest. Every week is a surprise, so don't plan anything. Even if you do and you request off expect to be met with negativity and a lot of passive aggressiveness.

Customers: In general customers are decent. You ring them up, some little chit chat and move on. But you this ability to do magical things with the "Yes We Can" policy. Because of this magical ability Kohl's has managed to breed a unique sort of customer. The adage "Give them and inch and they will take a mile" fits perfectly and you know what? YES WE CAN. Try explaining that Kohl's cash DOES INDEED EXPIRE and suddenly you should be punished by their wrath. Go ahead. Look at your kohl's cash. Does it say "month date, year - month date, year"? It does? Guess what that means. IT EXPIRES.

Pay: This is the biggy. And it is a special case. Out of the jobs I have held in my life Kohl's has easily paid the absolute least. I actually make minimum wage ($7.25/hr). On top of that Kohl's has easily been the most demanding of jobs I have ever held. Even working in IT Kohl's is still far more demanding. For minimum wage my responsibilities include, but are not limited to: POS, Customer Service, Stock, Truck unloading, changing rooms, display, register cleanliness, resupplying registers, price changes, and much more. Not to mention specialty projects that require you to be at one end of the store then suddenly a page goes out for all cashiers to the registers, so you have to go to the other end and assist customers, then try to get back to your project only to be met with 20 questions as to why your project is not making progress. All this, and more, can be yours for $7.25/hr. Oh and another thing: $0.50/credit you open and you get more hours!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be consistent. When all of you are telling us completely different things don't expect us to know what's going on. Trim the fat. Sorry to say, but you have hard working individuals who do care, and then you have employees who don't. If you replaced those that don't with the potential of getting more hard working people, then you'd see more getting done.

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Although I hated being at Kohl's everyday of my life, or two times a week, you get great benefits out of it for your future resume. Especially with customer service and sales goals. With these experiences, it makes it easier for you to apply for a future career or job, like the bank for example.

I liked it here because of the great and awesome flexibility with hours and availability. Major employee discounts. Associates. & sometimes managers.

    Cons

If you work as POS, you literally get pushed everyday of your life/time to reach sales goal. That's all you ever hear in the walkie. "GET THAT CREDIT"

If you're floor associate, it's even worse. I like it, because you work at a fast pace keeping up with fitting rooms, but when it comes to backing up at registers... Yeah. It ain't so fun. Once you back up, prepare to come back to your fitting room looking at that cart full of clothes. Or even stalls full of clothing that people were too lazy to bring out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please, understand that your associates work very HARD to achieve what you guys always ask for. Credit. PLEASE, stop taking your floor associates for granted. If you want to leave and close early, help them out by doing a couple of folds on the tables. It doesn't hurt to help just one bit! After all, you guys really just stand around or HIDE in the back room talking on the walkie.

I have been working at Kohl's

    Pros

Very friendly environment, very nice managers, time-off policies, very helpful training, being able to feel comfortable talking to everyone.

    Cons

Having to get people to sign up for a credit card, email sign up, not enough hours, not knowing if I would have to work early morning or late night, being pushed to put your own information in to getting a credit card.
