Good for the resume, good right out of college for experience.

Territory Sales Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Kraft Foods full-time for more than 5 years

ProsFlexible schedules, work life balance, benefits start right away.

ConsSalaries not great if you start right after college long term. Even if you receive a stellar review increases low. Hires and promotes too often based more on diversity (skin color ) and less on qualifications. Not really based on merit. Also there is more to diversity than skin color, Kraft.

Advice to Senior ManagementDiversity is a wonderful trait for a company but decisions should not be made solely on that. Also have more training for managers so they know how to manage people correctly, not just the business.

Kraft was an excellent company to start my career with

Customer Category Manager (Former Employee)
Mansfield, MA

I worked at Kraft Foods full-time for more than 3 years

ProsTraining and development of employees is tops in the industry

ConsOld regime management didn't understand career path development. The opportunity to take lateral moves and gain experience wasn't something that was embraced in my time with the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop career maps

Good company for entry level employees

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Northfield, IL

I have been working at Kraft Foods full-time for more than 8 years

ProsThey treat their entry level employees with kid gloves.
Pay is pretty good
Working from home is accepted

ConsCompany is always reorganizing. The current thinking is to get rid of old experienced employees and bring in new college recruits to replace them. Not much opportunity is given to move up for existing employees.
Health Insurance sucks.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe HR policies need to be updated, the constant rankings, surveys, alignments are getting really exhaustive and make employees more dissatisfied an anxious then motivate them to do a good job. Microsoft got rid of the practice of stack ranking because it might be sold as a way to rapidly get rid of dead weight, but in the long run, it only ends up creating more of it.

Scrupulous, moral food manufacturer

Manager (Current Employee)
Northfield, IL

I have been working at Kraft Foods full-time for more than a year

ProsThis is a good company to work for, but so much depends on your department and boss. The salaries are decent and the benefits are good.

ConsYou won't know that your boss is a narcasistic bully who craves constant adoration until you're there. And if you're not part of that bully boss's clique, be prepared to take a hit at review time.
A lot of lip service is paid to diversity, but no "mature" or unemployed people need apply.
The bureaucracy is overwhelming. The open office concept gives the feel of life in a zoo or fish bowl - - all eyes are upon you.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnough with the meetings and circuses and power point presentations. Management harps on simplicity, but is hypocritical (see bureaucracy above).

Doesn't walk the talk

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Madison, WI

I worked at Kraft Foods full-time for more than 3 years

ProsBusiness unit design functions well to share support materials (ie, policies, training programs) and lessons learned pertinent to the specific operating units. Push for six-sigma and lean manufacturing well-needed and initial implementation was excellent (but poorly supported long-term).

ConsWith the split between Kraft Foods and Mondelez, advancement opportunities have really frozen as higher level staff are pushed down into lower level positions, stagnating opportunities for growth from the bottom up. Oscar Mayer BU absolutely does NOT walk the talk about diversity and inclusion for persons of color, LGB or atheists. Nor does the management team support a healthy occupational safety culture. HR spends more time defending poor leadership behavior and choices than trying to change it and join the 21st century.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop making excuses for the perception survey results and believe them. Either change the entire management team at the Oscar Mayer Madison plant or just shut it down. Stop equating managers with dozens of years of service with "consistency" and start to embrace that fresher blood and different perspectives are needed if you are going to achieve change.
Stop changing the criteria for earning bonuses/recognition because employees changed their behavior to meet the latest criteria and qualify - you seem to think that, because a lot of people suddenly qualify for their bonus, the criteria must be too easy. By changing it all the time (sometimes mid-year), it makes it seem like you don't want to reward success.
