I have been working at LA Fitness (UK)

    Pros

Free Gym Membership. Nothing else to report as a pro... But there is a minimum word count for the pros category. Unfortunately I wish I could say they were a good company to work for.

    Cons

Long hours. Usually get to gym by 8:30/9am and don't leave until 9pm at night. The company will find any way possible to deduct commission. Even being the top salesman in the district multiple pay periods in a row it's still a challenge to even make $25,000 a year.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your employees! Turn over is way too high!

I worked at LA Fitness (UK) full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Only real pro is you get a free membership to the gym. If you are a personal trainer you also get to make your own schedule which is great.

    Cons

Bad pay. No respect from supervisors. Everyone in the sales side of the company lies to customers and lies to each other. They will steal your commission every chance they get. From top to bottom management is unethical in the way they treat customers and employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop promoting people who cheat their way to sales. Stop promoting and demoting people every week. Get a stable management structure. Pay employees a fair wage for the job they do. Pay employees for all hours they work and don't threaten to fire people for refusing to go to unpaid meetings.

I have been working at LA Fitness (UK) full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The other employees at my location are great.

    Cons

Although the word "marketing" appears in our title, the only marketing approved by corporate office seems to be putting flyers on cars, badgering people at shopping centers to get leads, and repeatedly calling people who expressed even a slight interest in joining. We are not permitted to partner with other companies, which means that we would ask businesses to allow our info to be displayed but could not do the same for those businesses. We are expected to make 40 calls a day, frequently to the same people. Truly a "churn and burn" operation, which is too bad since the gym where I work is really a great gym.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow us lea way to sell the company in more creative and less obnoxious ways.

    Pros

Full gym membership, and guest privileges.

    Cons

Most managers and VPs have been to prison for drug chargers and violent crimes.
    Extremely unethical sales practices.
Having such high pressure from superiors to make sales and a commission based salary forces good people to follow procedure and LIE to members about sales.
Horrible treatment of employees regarding time worked, time off, sick time, personal days etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little postivity and honesty can go a long way, appreciate those that are earning your money for you.

I worked at LA Fitness (UK) (less than an year)

    Pros

Experience in sales that allowed me to progress into a better job.

    Cons

Had I read the reviews (nation-wide) regarding L.A. Fitness' treatment of employees, I would have steered clear. Cold call, door-to-door marketing and sales tactics, chasing people through parking lots to their cars, walking into businesses and trying to secure "x" amount of appointments a day for sales "goals" to be met...was not worth the minimum wage. Being forced to market 2 hours a day, driving your own car around with no reimbursement for mileage or gas to come back empty handed, then to make 100 phone calls to people who complained about being called too many times was such a waste of time.

I was sexually harassed on a daily basis, and was actually told by management to use that to my advantage to get sales and appointments. When sending out mass texts for "specials" from our own phones to get people to come in, I was getting phone calls and sexual texts from people I had never texted in the first place with my number circulating and being followed and watched...even when I would be out to eat and off the clock. "Oh, you're the sexy girl from L.A. Fitness (mid bite of my meal). I've heard about you." (when I had never met or seen these people in my life)

They don't use any money to market and promote- they use the sales reps and pay them less than minimum wage after taxes. The gym was overpopulated, which actually caused people to go elsewhere, but L.A. Fitness just wanted more.

Do yourself a favor, and don't waste your time and energy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember that your foundation is what supports your business...not the belittling and degrading nature of your "guidance."
