    Pros

    LRN is a company that is really trying to help companies become more successful and sustainable. They do this through a focus on culture and behavior, but blend that with a real focus on education and knowledge of legal and compliance issues. Inside the company, its a flat organization with lots of freedom for employees to get involved in lots of interesting work. Comfortable office space, flexible hours and work styles, and really great people across the company make it a very enjoyable place to work. The work is intellectually challenging and very rewarding. By and large the people that work there are very smart, very experienced, diverse and very welcoming.

    Cons

    The company has pursued "flat" and "self-governance" radically but has not yet addressed some of the issues created by a lack of hierarchy, specifically around decision making. Get that right and the company will really hum.

    Advice to Management

    Move to make decisions more quickly.

    Pros

    LRN makes certain to employ great people.
    The service provided to and impact at the client is substantial (to the client). A bit difficult to articulate to those not in this space.

    Cons

    I have a love/hate relationship with executive management. They are ambitious in their goal setting and strategy for the company....but a bit unstable. The company seems to change its leadership and overall mission from time to time. Reaching for the stars can be fun, but changing things around so much makes it tough to get there.

    Pros

    The work I do is stimulating and important. We're trying to do things that have never been done well before and they can have a profound impact on the world we live in.

    The company is ambitious and playing at the highest levels. I have opportunity to connect with movers and shakers around the globe.

    Most days I learn something new. What we do is inherently complex. It requires we think broadly about the world and how it works, and continue to learn new things. We operate across a broad spectrum of ideas, activities and relationships. We need to understand the connect points.

    I'm growing professionally. There are no boxes at LRN. Influence evolves out of your behavior. Each day I have opportunities both to practice my leadership skills and take on new responsibilities. Where I see problems, I feel empowered to make suggestions, collaborate with colleagues and get them fixed.

    My colleagues are kind, supportive and decent people. They're committed to living in a moral and ethical world. They have diverse backgrounds and experiences. They want each other and the company to succeed.

    The office space is amazing, the snacks generous and the coffee plentiful.

    Cons

    The company is evolving. It's shifting its business model and operating structure. It's making changes in its talent. There are some growing pains as it works through the process. You have to come to the table ready to contribute, willing to experiment and wanting to be part of building something exceptional.

    There are easier ways to make more money. As a mission driven organization, compensation is below market.

    Standards can be quite high. You have to have character and thick skin, and be willing to take criticism as an opportunity for growth. And, you need the self-confidence to throw yourself into the conversation.

    Pros

    Never worked for an organization that is more empowering to its employees to lead their own jobs in great teams of professionals. Great Mission, organization, location, governance, benefits and many other things.

    Cons

    LRN is not for everyone. People who need to be given direction, have little initiative, take little or no responsibility or control for their own environment, would probably not be all that happy at LRN.

    Advice to Management

    Allowing waves to develop - - always!!

    Pros

    The company is striving for a non-hierarchical structure and is pursuing a strategy of self-governance. It is a company about ideas, and that means communication and being able to lead others and build consensus are key required skills. It is a place where you have to be forward thinking and open to change. LRN isn’t about the status quo. For me, our organizational model has afforded tremendous opportunity and creativity. There is a lot of space to have freedom to come up with new ideas, to challenge and to create. LRN engages with all types of organizations and some of the worlds largest companies to do work that changes behavior and culture for the better, that is a wonderful thing to be a part of. And there is an unlimited vacation policy.

    Cons

    One place the company could do better is by promoting to the executive team from within. LRN has more work to do around ensuring employees understand that they have opportunity for growth and that the company is investing in their professional development.

    Advice to Management

    Keep extending trust more and more, the more colleagues know that they are trusted to make decisions the better.

    Pros

    Very VERY smart people working at LRN. Good Vibe. Great changes coming including vacation and the idea of being a "flat" company. If you want to work with inspiring people come to LRN.

    Cons

    Not having the resources to do all the work that needs to be done. LRN is working on this so it will get better.

    Advice to Management

    You are doing a great job! There are some negative people but they always will be. Please treat the people that are there as good as possible. Be open to ideas. Remember that we are all equal. Without a team we would be nothing.

    Pros

    LRN is full of mission-driven colleagues who are out to make the world a better place and who are passionate to do so. They are very smart, collaborative and fun to work with.
    There is enormous potential for personal growth as everyone is encouraged to pursue their passions and to think without constraints. This is enabled by a flat structure and self governing culture.
    The company cares deeply about its customers and about helping them foster values-based, self governing cultures.
    The company's thought leadership is leading edge. It just released a report which shows in tangible terms that companies with values-based self governing cultures outperform in the areas of innovation, customer satisfaction, employee loyalty and financial performnace. This was just reported on in The Economist.
    The company is investing heavily in the development of new and innovative solutions.
    The company has beautiful offices in great locations. The offices are designed to encourage connection, collaboration, transparency and innovation.

    Cons

    The mission is so significant that there is a tremendous amount that needs to be done. One can spend extraordinary amounts of effort and time and yet there is still so much more to do. To some this may be frustrating.
    People who require traditional hierachical structures, functional departments and lines of authority will find this to be a very challenging environment as the company is flat and self governing.

    Advice to Management

    Do not change the strategy and keep executing on it. LRN is making a difference in the world and the impact is being felt.
