I have been working at LSI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salaries are very good and the engineers are excellent

    Cons

A great heritage from AT&T, Lucent and Agere is being ripped apart by Avago who purchased the company in 2014. The groups that aren't being sold off (the lucky ones) are being laid off to increase profit margin. So long to a great and proud company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of Hock Tan as soon as you can before there is nothing left but a shell.

I worked at LSI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Avago Tech seems to be committed to it's business model.

    Cons

Reduced investment in research and developement and the outsourcing of skilled jobs makes LSI a hard company to work for.

I have been working at LSI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Under LSI, interesting work, good pay, flexible work hours, and good benefits.

    Cons

Over 10 years of layoffs. Don't expect the division in Allentown to be around for a long time. I would definitely think twice before accepting a position here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to Avago - replace top management in Allentown. Find some talent which can grow the business. Otherwise, just close the doors in Allentown.

I worked at LSI full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Must say my fellow engineers and managers were nice.

    Cons

No direction at all. You must be a self starter, and i would encourage you to work in Milpitas before going to any remote office.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time for new blood! Some of you have been there over 30 years.

Former Employee - Senior Member Technical Staff in Denver, CO

I worked at LSI full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Some compelling technical issues to solve in storage BU. Many smart, people-oriented, successful folks to work with, exchange ideas and learn from. Flexible work hours in most cases.

    Cons

There's a noticeable amount of "behind the scenes" maneuvering performed by management in every level from the bottom to the top. Instead of working together to find solutions, sometimes they work at cross purposes or fight turf wars.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As the Avago merger settles and head count adjustments are made, think clearly about what you need to get done to meet first- and second-level goals. Don't worry about building an empire or fighting your old gun battles--you won't have time for that at Avago, since it's much more focused on components and the bottom line. Make your group more efficient (yes even if that means laying off some more).

I have been working at LSI for more than 10 years

    Pros

The overall benefits package is really awesome.
The pay is also very competitive.
Low to mid level workers are all very skilled.

    Cons

LSI used to be a great place to work until we got a new CEO who brought in all of his Intel cronies and changed the entire culture of the company.
    Career advancement is non existent.
Too much time spent on making non value add presentation slides to appease upper level managment.

I worked at LSI full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Balanced work/life and some interesting challenging works. Engineers skills are excellent.

    Cons

Too much of micro management and political fights. Some managers don't know when the day ends and the night begins. We suppose to be reached anywhere and anytime for any matters which can't wait until tomorrow?

Former Employee - Principal DSP Software Engineer in Allentown, PA

I worked at LSI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Costumers are the top in the industry

    Cons

Narrow set of customers make company susceptible to wimps of customers.
Median employee age is high since they haven't hired squat since the layoffs (when company was Agere) started 10 years ago.
All layoffs look like age discrimination but aren't as nearly everybody is over 40.
Talent or age are not an issue with layoffs, it's just about (lack of) money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retire when Avago buys the company. The industry can survive without you.
Stop buying back stock (it hasn't helped)
Make investments in new directions (much like you did with Storage but elsewhere).
