I worked at Lafarge full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Multinational experience and culture. Good remuneration package. Leaders in H&S. Good working environment. Some exceptional people in management.

    Cons

Heavily bureaucratic. French central management doesn't always understand the country needs. Currently (2013) not hiring. Bad results and recession have led to a lot of lay-offs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't let people go just on the basis that you have to get the numbers right. Be more merit-based.

Former Employee - Quality Control in Toronto, ON (Canada)

I worked at Lafarge full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

HR is very with it; global network of people and resources; lots of opportunity to move within the company globally and locally; great health and safety initiatives; got to use all my experience and languages in my daily work

    Cons

Managers can be discouraging if you try to move within the organization; very hierarchical; seemed like they had more people doing the same jobs as my previous company (same industry); be wary of micro-managing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eliminate the union-management adversarial culture/mindset; hire good people and let them do their job; address the polarized responses from the employee engagement survey
