I have been working at Lamar University

    Pros

I work as a front desk assistant in the STARS department at LU and it's great. The people are very friendly and cheerful, and since it is work-study, they encourage you to do your very best. They are very understanding if you can't make it to work and love to see you everyday!

    Cons

No cons that I could specify, other than the upset students you have to deal with, the job is pretty gravy

I have been working at Lamar University as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Faculty members are very helpful. Developers can work form any place using VPN, no need to present in the department during the working hours. Any requirements are task based, so it does not matter whether you work day time or night time. After finishing your work you are free to do anything. Nobody gonna bother you.

    Cons

Contract based, So when your studentship finished from Lamar University you are no able to work for this position. Its an graduate assistant position so you can work only 20 hours a week.

I worked at Lamar University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are a student assistant, they will work around your schedule. If you get hired by the right department, you can get incredibly connected with the higher ups. I know of one person who got a recommendation from Lamar's President for a job.

    Cons

20 hours max a week. Don't expect to be rich if you have bills to pay.

I worked at Lamar University full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

People are friendly and supportive.Environment is positive. Cost of living is not high. Many good places to et asnd tour museums and art galleries.

    Cons

the weather is very humid and you never have a good hair day.You are 45 minutes to Louisiana state line and there is so much to do in Louisiana. You are 80 miles from Houston and you would have tons of great things to do there also. Beaches are close and you can take a ferry from Bolivar to Galveston for the day or the weekend, and the boat ride is fun with dolphibs following the ferry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the professors....they have good input and information. They use flexibility in scheduling and office hours.

I have been working at Lamar University part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The university has been nationally recognized for the quality of its core curriculum and the diversity of its student body. Small class sizes and a low student-to-faculty ratio allow students to build meaningful relationships with expert faculty who truly care about their success. Lamar was recently designated as a Carnegie Doctoral Research University, one of only 29 public schools in the nation to receive that designation. LU has more than 300 students enrolled in doctoral programs. Lamar University has a 19:1 student to faculty ratio.

    Cons

It requires more faculty in engineering departments and it should set high standard for graduate students admission.
