    Pros

Long time employees do very little by protecting turf and playing politics.

    Cons

New employees do much of the work with little advancement or reward. They leave or become a long time employee. The company as a whole is not supportive, just a burden for anything to get down. Trend will be to continue to downsize.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move the work to cheaper and hungrier sites.

You don't want to work at this place unless you had no other choice.

    Pros

The only reason to work at LLNL is if you want a decent salary (not great, just decent) and relatively good benefits. Beyond that....there is no reason.

    Cons

Many, many layers of managers that are worse than incompetent. By worse, I mean they actively work towards making the place unsuccessful. And then they will sit around and talk about how great they are. I have seen bad management before, but nothing like this, and there are layers, and layers, and layers of them. Most of us could not identify what it is they do, because we see no evidence of their activity, except when they mess things up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would replace the management in its entirety. From the top down. A desperate need for a change of culture is called for here. You could put the best leader in the world at the top, but what good does that do when the many many layers below do not implement the good policies? And then they are not fired for doing it. We had huge layoffs here recently, all workers! No managers! We thought we had a top heavy management before, now it is huge. This place has no innovation to speak of, and if it did, it would get squashed by the managers that did not want you the worker to look better than them by accomplishing something.

    Pros

    There are some interesting projects.

    Cons

Management overheads takes most of research grant money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management is parasitic because roughly 2/3 of any outside grant is taken by overhead. Sponsors don't get the results they were promised.
