    Pros

In the summer they close Emeryville office at 2pm. OK benefits. Good location

    Cons

Very political environment. Bias incompetent management who are dismissive of new ideas and improvement. Not innovative. Senior Management lacks vision. Systems are really old and defective and NO documentation or processes for business anywhere. Every department is short staffed, so people work long hours of overtime. Management do not value employee's life.
During the interview - they will promise you the world. Do not expect to get trained on anything. If you ask questions, Managements gets very defensive.
If you take your job seriously, value accuracy, try to be efficient and good at it and try to change the unhealthy environment around you - there will be resistance. Lots of self inflated old-timers who lacks technical or theoretical knowledge and do NOT like change.
Managers never take responsibility for anything and not afraid to let employees know that they are all disposable. Do not expect to get promoted within -

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire all the self inflated middle managers and bring in new blood.

    Pros

Not many. You get bagels on Friday and its a nice office in a good location.

    Cons

This was one of the worst companies I have ever worked for. My first week here many of the employees admitted to me that they cried their first two months starting out. The stress level is extreme here and the overall company message is that you are expendable. The environment is very negative and not a fun place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on employee morale. Make this a fun place to work.

    Pros

The people are friendly and nice. Great creative teams. Positive mission.

    Cons

They often know the right thing to do, and choose not to do it. Often it's because it's never been done before, or because they're afraid it won't work out or something bad might happen. They have a strong "can't do" attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire good people. Reward those who do a good job. Find the weaknesses and make them better.

    Pros

LeapFrog has a lot of nice, friendly people.
What's not to like about trying to help kids learn?

    Cons

    We've been losing good talent.
    Opportunity for growth is limited.
    Morale is low.
We do things because they're what we've always done.
We know we make bad decisions, but we see no other choice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plan for next year and the year after, instead of this quarter and next quarter. Make the teams and direction more focused and integrated. (Creating and publishing a list with a double-digit number of disparate objectives is not the same as defining focus.)

    Bitter experience at Leapfrog

    Pros

No words to talk about Leapfrog

    Cons

Employees at Director and above level always enjoy all perks .

At times, they will enjoy 6-7 months unofficial notice period on top of which they get compensated for non-disclosure agreements etc.

Lower level employees are always affected and at times are given instant notices even for those employees who work longer terms.

Managers go into "revenge" mode during REORGs and resort to any technique to boot the employees out.

HR always in "Yes Boss" mode for directors and above level employees.

You will suffer if you are a real team player.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should always reward hard working employees. And HR should use some common sense when it comes to taking care of employees.

Follow what you say in the meetings. Reward team players.

Always worry about kids.... and worry about employees too.

Current Employee - Senior Manager FP&A

    Pros

You want to work in the East Bay
    You like the products

    Cons

The culture is all about second guessing and finding someone else to blame
Bad economics leads to bad business decisions
Boom & bust nature of the business means lack of job stability (from the CEO on down)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick and strategy and stick it out for the long-haul
Invest in what comes next. The product life-cycles are too short to get fixed and the current wave
The culture needs to empower teamwork and risk-taking (not backstabbing and second guessing)

    Pros

Really good people (but the best don't last long)
    Interesting products

    Cons

Terrible leadership that is constantly changing, so the priorities are constantly changing.
Not people-centric. Inept HR leadership, who quite frankly, are downright mean and condescending.
Not competitive in terms of salary or benefits.
Highly politicized culture. The "suck-ups" are the only ones with upward mobility.
    Did I mention terrible leadership.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at yourselves and make the difficult changes necessary to save this once interesting organization.

Weak senior management and little recognition for performance

    • Comp & Benefits
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Senior Management
    • Career Opportunities
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  Emeryville, CA
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Emeryville, CA

    Pros

Great brand recognition, and people here are passionate about the products we make. Junior to mid-management people are generally easy to work with and collaborative. For some unknown reason, people are also willing to work crazy hours to make things happen (given there's not much recognition in return).

    Cons

Senior management, especially the CEO, has a tough time "walking the walk" - they claim certain things are important (brands, values, etc.) but then they turn around and their actions espouse the exact opposite. The CEO is a great salesman but has yet to actually produce the cultural changes he's promised for 7 months...and in general there's not a lot of substance below what he says/promises to employees or our customers.

There has been a huge employee exodus lately in large part due to frustration with the new CEO and senior management's lack of recognition of hard work and dedication. It's a real shame as we are losing some key people as a result. Certain people have received a lot of recognition, but in general the bulk of the "rank and file" continue to go ignored. Senior management is really weak as well and has little backbone to stand up for their employees...they also have a habit of taking credit for work that is not their own.

Oh, and benefits here are bad. You'd think in a place that makes kid products that this would be a family-friendly company, but it's quite the opposite - this is a workhorse culture with little work/life balance (or support from sr management for work/life balance).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start appreciating what you have in dedicated employees - and recognize their efforts financially and publicly. Stop playing favorites. And stop saying one thing to employees as "lip service" when your actions show the opposite.

    Pros

    1) discount on toys 2) good location nothing really value added that's important.

    Cons

bad business decisions have resulted in inability to invest in their future. stock price has reflected that reality. terrible working environment with high turn for a reason.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a hard look at some of the sr managers & their inappropriate behavior & lack of business acumen. these folks should be leading your company & are leading it in the wrong direction.
