I worked at Lee County Sheriff - Alabama full-time for more than 5 years
Pros – Take home vehicle and generally good, capable coworkers at the entry level through middle management.
Cons – Very expensive family health insurance with high deductibles, and no dental or vision coverage.
Lack of safety equipment.: Outdated protective vest and not fit tested properly, no protective mask or equipment for processing chemical labs.
Poor/unusable two way radios.
Lack of training/schools .
Lazy work environment.
Salary is in the lower 25 percentile nationally. Expect around $1900 a month for 65 hrs a week. No OT usually paid as comp time.
Over 20K warrants in backlog.
Sheriff salary is in the 80 percentile nationally while deputies salary is in 25th.
8 Deputies service apx 50k people which makes us ineffective.
Advice to Senior Management – Get a new Sheriff. Focus on budget, personnel, and public service. Increase training.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I have been working at Lee County Sheriff - Alabama
Pros – Good Coworkers, nice offices, bathrooms, and coffee machines.
Cons – Lack of safety equipment (my protective vest is over 6 years old), little or no feedback on work performance (my last evaluation was three years ago), little or no recognition of good work, very low pay, very poor family insurance.
Advice to Senior Management – Get serious about public service and stop being yes men. Develop some unit goals, provide training and incentives to achieve those goals. Get real and stop worrying about the window dressing, the public deserves better.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
