I worked at Legg Mason full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed the flexible working hours, as well as the ability to telecommute. The pay was great with excellent benefits.

    Cons

The word transparency was used a lot, but it was anything but transparent. There were too many "clicks" within the departments. Employee privacy was an issue, as HR was apart of the clicks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management is to be truthful with your employees.

I have been working at Legg Mason

    Pros

Legg Mason has an excellent culture and great heritage. The firm values hard work and ethical behavior. I would recommend LM as an employer.

    Cons

The pay at Legg Mason is not always top notch, but the people and culture and stability can offset this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The advice that i would give would be to have the investment affiliates continue to seek best practices from the other subs.

    Pros

Legg Mason is an outstanding place to work. Management is very good with helping employees balance work-life and they treat employees fairly.

    Cons

Unless you live in the Baltimore metro region, career opportunities may be limited. One of the best companies that I've ever worked for!
