Not a bad place to work. Just not a great place either.

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

As a summer analyst in the leveraged loans group, I primarily did research on leveraged companies. A lot of time was spent alone behind a computer.

    Cons

Lots of time working on cash flow models in Excel with little connection to the value they actually created. Also, listening in on conference calls was boring. Very little attention was paid to summer analysts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't tell you employees that everything is going to be fine when you're about to go under water nearly everyone is going to lose their job.

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

    Company culture
    Ability to grow within company

    Cons

Bankruptcy, limited departments to choose from, combining culture with Barclays

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you are doing-- net profits are a good sign. How did Lehman and Barclays culture combine after the bankruptcy?

Very fast-paced company that was well-organized but stratified

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

When it was in business, the corporate culture encouraged innovation and moving fast, usually to the detriment of documentation and organization. International opportunities were also largely encouraged: transferring internally to international locations was quite common

    Cons

To the detriment of its fast paced culture, the company was very political in its inner dealings. Employee communication was mostly cheerleading, with very little important information. Though it ran like a well-oiled machine, roles were quite set in stone, and advancement was gauged more on perception rather than results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strike a better balance between work and life, and change the culture towards progression rather than stress out the staff to keep catching up. Try to get back the talent that left after the insolvency.

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

Diverse, smart people, great networking opportunities, wonderful businesses across the board.

    Cons

It's too bad the company went bankrupt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The mgmt should have communicated better with the employees and the public.

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

Lehman was a good place to work. Salary and benefits were good. Fellow employees were smart and good to work with.

    Cons

Total comp included restricted stock units that could not be acted upon for five years after receiving them. Large company made upward mobility difficult.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lehman as it was ceases to exist. Middle management did a good job and treated employees well. I am satisfied with how I was treated.

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

The company was very helpful in allowing me to work from home when I moved. Lehman also did a good job of making training available to both consultants and employees

    Cons

There was very little training for consultants. Senior Management drove company into ground and the months following the bankruptcy were chaotic

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I wish they didn't destroy the company with their short-sighted plan for growth. I've heard that former Lehman employees are not given the same respect as old and new Barclays hires

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

Worked with Lehman d for almost 4 years got very well but made me lazy as a network manager, you get to direct others so you don't have to do it yourself

    Cons

they went bankrupt leaving me unemployed , but for the most part it was a great place to work nice people great pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should have held the place together and taken a bailout , and we would still have jobs i think ,

I have been working at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

Good culture, surrounded by bright people. Good work life balance. The pay is comparable to other investment firms.

    Cons

It's in bankruptcy now. Majority of legacy Lehman in New York is now part of BarCap.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, be aware of the risk.

    Cons

Remember that stock you got for your bonus? Yeah. Not so much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at Lehman Brothers

    Pros

It is an established business in Wall Street with an aggressive strategy. I like the set up of the office and the relation with the team.

    Cons

Time and work balance: I asked my colleage why he came to office so early on Monday morning and he said he had not gone home yet.
Incompliant managemorninmnt among sub-business units: The appraisal systems are different from one another.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consolidate their HR management systems to be in line with one another
