I worked at Leiden University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The University provided a great collection of coworkers. I was impressed by the excellent support staff who were very helpful in various situations, not only directly related to the office. Compensation was very good for my level. The city itself is very nice to live in, not too big but with all the amenities. The proximity to Schiphol airport is a great help for someone who travels a lot.

    Cons

As someone new to the Netherlands, I would have appreciated more clear instructions as to what is needed for local government and administration.

I have been working at Leiden University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Highest student satisfaction rate in the Netherlands. Rich student life. As a researcher, plenty of interaction opportunities, e.g. in bio-informatics and medicine (Leiden University Medical Center), physics and other exact sciences. Exact science campus surrounded by high-tech companies.

    Cons

Computer science labs are a bit old, but new campus being built. Relatively little interaction with high-tech companies on same campus. Food and housing can be rather expensive.

I have been working at Leiden University as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Even as a intern, I got access to excellent facilities, an office and a good environment. You are generally well treated by everyone and co-workers are happy to help you by answering your questions.

    Cons

Everybody appears to be minding its own business and when it is time to go home, the town does not offer a lot of amusement.

I have been working at Leiden University

    Pros

    1) The faculty has a few world-class professors.
    2) It also has very good research facilities.
    3) PhD candidates get paid.

    Cons

Dutch government is cutting off research funds in all its universities.
Normally, a PhD candidate needs to be a teaching assistant apart from being a researcher. That consumes some time.
