I have been working at Level 3 Communications

    Pros

    - Benefits package is outstanding, especially PTO as your service time increases (30 days/yr). Salary is competitive and bonus is very nice.

    - New leadership (Jeff Storey) has been a boon for the company. Most employees finally feel like they matter.

    - Very flexible as far as working from home, flex time, accommodating to family needs.

    - Outstanding opportunity to learn state-of-the-art technologies and forge long-lasting relationships within the telecom field.

    Cons

    - Management can be lackadaisical at times which leads to under-performing employees and groups not being held accountable for deficiencies.

    - Major con, which has been rectified, was acquiring companies and moving through integration much too quickly. Some of these issues from years-old acquisitions are still troublesome. To their credit, L3 has made great strides at not only retaining tribal knowledge by retaining acquired personnel, they're also moving slower with integration efforts.

    - Working out of a satellite office can really limit career advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Good salary and compensation program, great training and benefits

    Cons

My division was not consistent and the management was too loose. Their expectations did not match what they communicated to their subordinates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To be successful, they must pay closer attention to the marketplace.

I worked at Level 3 Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

High growth global company. Lots of opportunity for career advancement for the serious minded employee with an eye for self improvement and personal / professional growth.

    Cons

Lots of business challenges are presented every day. Excessively fast in acquiring companies. Integration although intentional in approach, committed staff, and best of intentions is weak in implementation. Complexities abound.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Personally I was very interested to move forward with the combined company. For me that did not happen as I was part of a RIF. I wish you sound judgement, wisdom, and success for your future.
