I worked at Level 3 Communications full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked with a lot of knowledgeable, friendly people. The relationships I formed extended outside of the workplace, and I still keep in touch with many of them.

    Cons

The changes in Information Technology upper management have sometimes been frustrating. In addition, the company reorganizations add a layer of confusion.

I have been working at Level 3 Communications as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Level 3 provided a really strong learning centered environment with room to grow. If there is anything you want to learn there is someone who will be willing to help you further your knowledge base.

    Cons

Level 3 likes to set up a set protocol and once you get used to it (we are talking a few weeks not months) they change what they said and don't tell you. This leaves very frustrated employees because you get told you did something wrong yet they didn't tell you they changed the procedure in the first place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Level 3 all in all is a great place to work for. I would recommend it to anyone especially if you are trying to get your foot in the door. The only thing I would recommend to management is to work on letting employees know if you are going to change a process.

    Pros

Good pay in the market, managers are almost always very nice.

    Cons

Too customer oriented, it's good to please customers but some times customers are cocky and you always have to bend to their BS otherwise they report you and your manager hits back which sometimes affects your PWB and consequently your bonus

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep up the good work! but please keep in mind that customers can also be wrong!

I have been working at Level 3 Communications as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Level 3 is very family oriented. They allow their employees to bring their children in if needed and if you need to meet family obligations outside of work they provide convenient ways to take care of them.

    Cons

The current processes and procedures they have in place change often and can be confusing and are not always logical.

I worked at Level 3 Communications full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are probably the best in the industry. Jim Crowe seemed to really care about his employees especially those with a great deal of tenure.

    Cons

Ongoing challenges with combining networks of numerous companies they have purchased over the past several years. They typically buy companies that complement their network needs but do not actually "complete" the process before moving forward with the next acquisition. That being said, every day is a major challenge because networks and billing platforms are still in the process of being combined.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Probably shouldn't expect the same type of sales in tier 3 cities as you do in tier 1 cities. Quotas should be assigned / determined by the size of the city, number of companies...etc. In other words an NFL city (New York, Chicago, Phoenix, Miami) that obviously have a much larger population would carry the highest quotas vs cities that can't support any type of professional sports team.
