A very good place to work

    Legal News Editor (Current Employee)

ProsFlexibility, opportunities to learn, good supervisor

ConsLack of attention to financial situation. Unclear messages about future of company and staffing. Slow to implement changes. Lots of title changes and structural changes, but not a lot of improvements to the product.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your IT/help desk in order.

Directors and Senior Directors and Directors and Senior Directors

Many Different Jobs - You Need to to Stay At This Company (Current Employee)

ProsThey still offer good salary and benefits but eliminate long-term employees unless they are Directors and Senior Directors and more Directors and Senior Directors.

ConsThere are so many managers who do so very little. I have often wondered what they are Directors and Senior Directors of? There are Directors and Senior Directors that have one or two people reporting to them. It seems that it is all in who you know and not what you know and what you can do at LexisNexis.

Advice to Senior ManagementToo late. When is the next round of layoffs to meet numbers. Merry Christmas!

    Account Excecutive

    Account Manager (Current Employee)
    New Providence, NJ

Pros- Good for college grad looking for experience. Get out after a few years.

    Cons- No Vision
    - Horrible products, Too Expensive, Hard Sell
    - Low Moral

Advice to Senior ManagementStop hiring expensive consulting agencies. Ask your client base and staff what can be done to make the company better.

    Good Products, Minimal Stability

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Dayton, OH

ProsEmployees are treated well overall, although a single manager can wreak havoc
    Good products
    Good salary and benefits
Good variety of company events, employee discounts
    Outstanding community involvement
Decent on-site cafeteria and snack bar
    On-site fitness center
On-site organizations that receive company funding for events
    Clean buildings and restrooms
    Convenient parking

ConsFrequent reorganizations lead to good employees being let go
Unsettling atmosphere as employees wait for the next reorg
Inconsistent management. My first manager loved my work, while my second hated it
Unrealistic project timelines led employees to forego family events, holidays, and vacations to work with no recognition afterwards
Internal help desk was moved to the Philippines; quality has plummeted

Advice to Senior ManagementFrequent reorgs negatively affect morale. Figure out what you want to do and do it.

    Good place to work

    Regional Sales Manager (Current Employee)

ProsWork/life balance. Solid benefits. Lots of training/investment in professional development.

ConsEver-changing strategy/focus. Marketing is non-existent, so sales is pretty much on its own (with no money) to try and promote the brand and build customer relationships.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop making decisions based on meeting current quarter expectations and stock price; think longer term in order to have long-term, sustainable success and growth.

    Troubled water for the future

    Territory Manager (Current Employee)

ProsThe people are great...from the top down. The products themselves are good. The delivery system is unstable and unreliable. Over all comp for sales people is well within the market range.

ConsThere appears to be a lack of a focused vision. In addition, it seems the company is very satisfied being number 2 in the market. Product development is uneven and unreliable. For sales people, the comp is too low for salary.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus. Focus. Focus. Do not follow "Best Practices"...think out of the box. Be bold. Do something that is not reactionary for proactive.

    Pressure Cooker

    Account Manager (Current Employee)
    Dayton, OH

ProsWonderful co-workers, great pay and benefits. Fun perks like parties, happy hours, etc.

ConsMismanagement is rife, flagship products don't work, pressure is unbearable. Just this year, a woman in her thirties had a stress related stroke, and two other people had to take short term disability for psychological reasons. The pay is not worth it.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen employee performance tanks, look for underlying causes rather than just applying more pressure. You have talented professionals who need the chance to succeed. Don't let a bad month or two convince you that employees who have been with the company for decades are dead weight. Invest in your employees that way you say you do. Stop the culture of fear.

Not a bad place but constant layoffs

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsCo-workers and the actual work part of the job are pretty solid. It's great working with the students and there's lots of flexibility in your schedule. Really high vacation days as well.

ConsFor the last 2-3 years, there have been lay offs every six months and that's not a trend that is likely to change as consultants have already been contracted to see how to cut further. It's almost impossible to move up in the company unless you live in Dayton. Only raises are the cost of living raise once a year (roughly 2.5%). Bonuses are paid out in advance so if performance isn't met, then you have to give money back to the company - very demoralizing.

Advice to Senior ManagementI know cuts have to be made in hard times, but if you keep taking the wind out of our sails, eliminate all support and help we have, give us zero opportunities for career growth or advancement, and seek to cut the programs that draw customers to us (making it impossible to reach goals), then you will lose all your talent. The job market is not as bad as it was two years ago and everyone will jump ship.

    Lot of potential

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat flexibility. Management trust you and is very hand-offs. If you do your work, they will let you manage your time as you see fit

ConsNot a lot of opportunities for advancement. Large corporation that moves at glacial speed. You have to fight to get trained in new technologies and trends that should come natural in a company like this one.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to walk the talk. If you want agility, invest in clever people
