    Very old culture, IT was considered as only an expense. Reduced at all cost

    I worked at Libbey full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    The individuals that worked at Libbey were for the most part very enjoyable. I was given the ability to perform my job and actually did enjoy it. Work/Life balance was great. Never expected anything more than 40 hours a week. You were able to do more and I feel it was noticed when you did.

    Cons

    Very old culture with a very old mindset on how things should be done. IT was not invested in and was only considered an expense. Not much room for moving up in the company. I would not recommend for an IT career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Invest in your IT department if you would like to see increase in productivity from both IT and the general business.

    Pros

    Good compensation for the amount of work done. Easy to request time of when needed. Quality benefit package. Good communication from management to employees concerning issues.

    Cons

    Not much opportunity for advancement within the company.

    I have been working at Libbey

    Pros

    Good factory discount, nice office environment as long as you do not have to visit factories. Generally the atmospher is relatively laid back. A few people on the team due the bulk of the heavy lifting and many others can coast for years. Many senior level employees are retired in place enjoying having a job while the company slowly declines. HR tried to attract good employees and the benefits are decent for Toledo. If you are looking at a short term gig to get experience, less than 2 years or so it might be a place to consider before leaving Toledo for good.

    Cons

    The Company is doing poorly. The stock price just hit a 52 week low. Competition is fierce from overseas. Senior management is clueless on what to do next. The company is massively leveraged in debt. Oil prices and natural gas prices are knocking the wind out of any hopes for a profitable year. Goal sharing although in place pays out very seldom and no where near the maximum. Senior management thinks it can beat the market by becoming Chinese. Will soon move all production out of USA due to labor prices. This company has hits its prime and now fill go from mediocre to death.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get new ideas. The old ways are as old as you are. Limited innovation and embracing new technology. Upper management should change from beating people up with endless streams of questions and start providing ideas and leaderships instead of analyzing everything to death.

    I worked at Libbey full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great products, excellent distribution and it's corporate culture is improving. The new president is doing a great job in guiding the business into a well run company.

    Cons

    Need better tools for training, average pay and need to either hire actual managers or train current managers to be proper manager. Need automated reports to then forward and communicate to customers instead of having each individual sales person running mundane reports instead of selling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Poor manager communication to sales and too many internal processes. Focus on the business as a whole and stop being so glass focussed, this discrepancy is very transparent to Libbey dealers as well as Libby's competition.
