I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay was good and the people I worked with were hard working and decent to work with.

    Cons

Management did nothing to promote success amongst its lower management and claim representatives. There was a change in senior management and senior manager did nothing to improve the conditions other than to clean house. They would say that they were there to help you but that turned into lip service. No chance to rectify the conditions nor did senior management reach out to assist lower management in becoming successful. Their solution to making change was to performance out instead of addressing and correcting deficiencies. Also work/lie]fe balance was unheard of in region.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire upper management that will invest in their employees. Take time to see what is wrong and address with existing field members. If that doesn't work then go ahead and performance out. If you say you're going to do something then back it up with actions. Don't say one thing and do another. It really hurts credibility. This is especially true in the Northeast region.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great location.
    - Nice building.

    Cons

    - The most political place that I have experienced in my whole career. I know that there is politics all over corporate America, but Liberty takes it to a total different level. If you are looking for a merit and performance driven organization, look somewhere else.

    - Very negative atmosphere. It relates back for my first bullet point. No one inside believes in the leadership and the organization, yet everyone needs to play the game to keep their inside options open.

    - Very old school way of management, maybe 1920s or 1930s way of seeing individual. Taylorism way of looking at employees. Employees are seeing as a commodity piece that just need to execute process. No voice, no empowerment, no recognition. That's even in HQ, you can't even imagined how people view those working in the field operations.

    - Forget about career progression. This is an exclusive field for those who started the company at one of their development programs. They are seeing as the future of the company. Every single unit leader went through that program and is committed to promote only those individuals that came thru that program.

    - Merit, skills, experience, and contribution are irrelevant factors on career advancement opportunities. What matters at Liberty is: 1- How many years you have been inside the company. 2- Who do you know inside every operations, it is your FACEBOOK connections that drives your career advancements.

    - Lack of professional and personal maturity across the organization.

    - Complete lack of team spirit and alignment across functions, groups, and subgroups. Individuals and subgroups are encouraged to compete against each other and not to collaborate with each other. Directors, VPs, Managers are constantly gossiping and trashing each other behind their backs.

I worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance

    Pros

None, the will pay for performance

    Cons

The Safeco Insurance side of Liberty Mutual is like most large for-profit insurance companies however they care nothing about employees and DEFINITELY not culturally diverse. Not a good company for minorities. They will pay to keep you in the same spot but never promote.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wouldn't matter the advice because they wouldn't bother taking it.

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Colleagues depending on cut throat. No room for advancement as I've kept the same role for 6 years, and applied to whichever open position became available. At that, I have always exceeded my metrics! The more you rub the upper managements feet, the farther you will go in the company! One in-particular colleague proved me to believe!

    Cons

Work/ Life Balance??..Management.....What a joke. Your Full time hours should automatically be 40 and not 37.5, especially since your required to work a MANDATORY of 5 additional hours per week. Think that's easy? Try being reprimanded for your sick child or house burning down....Your asked " Ok, so do you think you'll make it in for 1/2 a day"?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of sitting in a small office amongst one another determining if a "new hire" representative should be recognized for giving their last breath, and acknowledge there is an overall problem with tenured reps morale and especially your management style. The turnover is a disgrace for tenured reps and make us question ourselves "why do I come into this place and give 100%!!!!!!

I have been working at Liberty Mutual Insurance full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Competitive pay is the only pro I can think of

    Cons

Heavy workload without care how it gets accomplished. Poor work/life balance, unfocused middle and senior management. Very difficult to progress once you are in and rewards have no relation to skills. Openly pro younger employees and unfriendly to mature/older workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to listen to all employees and avoid one dimensional goals.Top management needs to review current promotion process.
